Moses, it isn't personal. it's just that I believe all the world's problems can't be solved by taking a
pill.

Anxiety?
What do I know, I'm not a psychiatrist.

I believe we look to temporary solutions too often and medicate the problems instead of solve them.
I'm just as entitled to my opinion as you are yours, at least I felt that way until this thread when you became rude and insulting because I had an opinion.

I think she'll know

Sam, you need to go back and re-read this thread. You failed to grasp what it was about.

This.

I feel for you, Vash. I will do almost anything that most people consider risky without my heart beat increasing over resting rate. Public speaking... I'm a wreck. And I'm a cocky &$^&er

One thing that has helped me in public speaking is becoming completely comfortable with my surroundings. In the past I've had speak at conferences and investment presentations. My most successful presentations are when I've practiced going to the building, going to the room, sitting down, walking to and standing at the lectern, walking through the seats, etc. so that the room feels second nature, like you are home or work or anywhere you feel confident and at ease. Has helped me a lot.

Thanks Moses. That's the pill.

I've gotten great at speeches. I practice and go in the effen expert on the matter. Oddly enough, it's this fantastic presentation I gave that prompted management to approach me with a promotion. I got on their radar. I made the other presenters look like amatuers.

Now I have a panel interview. Random question and GO! I can't study everything.. I'm studying a lot. I'm afraid I'll vapor lock. That's all. Panic. I don't do panel interviews at all. Just once in my life. I barely survived it.

Vash,

You have been in your field a long time and did something well enough to get approached for a promotion. Chances are pretty good that if you are prepared they won't be able to throw you for a loop.

But if you still need a pill and it won't impair you, go for it.

Oh and Moses, can you prescribe the rest of us whatever pill you take to be able to shrug off sammys stupidity as well as you did?

a beta blocker for anxiety?

it's not an anxiolytic, such as Xanax, diazepam ...

I've been speaking in front of audiences weekly for about 12 years... There are a few things I recommend to reduce anxiety:

1. Know your chit. Know it well.
2. Repetition. The chit I'm about to say, I've said many times before.
3. Humbleness: Realize that you can't answer every challenge. Be okay with that.
4. Find your mojo. I have a large team. We all say the same things differently because it needs to fit our mojo. Don't use other peoples words.

...and finally "Your number one mission as a speaker is to take something that matters deeply to you and rebuild it inside the minds of your listeners." - From the founder of TED talks.

...you may have real medical anxiety. I dunno. ...but I'd try this before I tried medication.

Yeah, because being dismissive is such a feat.

Personally, I would take Sam's advice here long before Mose's.

Sammys advice is very good but the delivery is terrible. 42,000 times over. But that's what we love about him or whatever

you may want to familiarize yourself with the autonomic nervous system and Beta blockade before your eyes roll too far away.

If you do find something to take; definitely have a few practice sessions on the stuff before the big day.

My prescription:

1. Draw straws to see who will speak first.
2. Bring your own straw.

No offense toward anyone, but I doubt I'd want to take a pill, any sort of pill, before speaking in front of a large crowd.
