Here Comes the Desert Heat...

Supposed to climb towards 120' here next week...starting this Sunday.
I'll be migrating between my pool and the indoors. Sometimes it's too hot to even be in the pool.
That's when I do laundry, vacuum the joint, wash dishes, and other vicissitudes of indoor life...like snoozing and watching TV.
Damn sure no working in the garage.
A month or so of this then comes the paradise of the Phoenix Valley winter.

At least we have the ultra high humidity to keep things below 100 around here. (most of the time)

I meant these high temps - 110 -120+
I can function fairly well when it's 100 or so...dry heat, you know.
.
You've been here for a while...what's the highest temp you've seen?

I remember 121 or 122. Been here 20 years.

My standard is to be able to stand outside without shade and without hating life. Sadly most of the rifle classes I attend are outside without any shelter.

I feel for you. It's going to hit around 114 in the desert east of here and get into the 90s on the west side of the mountains. Of course I'm not going to the desert.

That's funny, I try to do the same thing when standing in a icy parking lot, with too many layers on to move, freezing from the sub zero temps, and windchill in the -40 range......it absolutely takes your breath away.

A phenom here when it gets hot...
Turn on the hot tap for cold water...30 seconds or so.
Cold tap is hot at first and never gets cold.

Headed to San Diego this weekend, and probably the next weekend, and probably the one after that.

One piece leathers? No way. I don't ride in this heat...no matter what I wear.
Sometimes I'll go out at midnight...sometimes early, like 4 - 5 AM.
Real early Sun. mornings are OK
.
Yeah the desert has a unique beauty. Sunsets are often pink and turquoise.

120 here in PD next Tuesday. Hit 126 last year.

I can't really tell the difference, anything over 115 is just stinkin' hot.

In the summer here...and if I happen to be working outside, I'll strip down naked and jump into the pool. Coming out of the pool with a wet body even the hot air feels cool.

I'm still amazed every summer that the guys that do the real work....roofing, landscaping, roadwork and construction are covered head to toe with long sleeve hooded sweatshirts and long pants. I know why, but it still goes against what I would want to have on. But then I would drop dead in less than an hour up on the roof at 120 degrees!

Make that 15 minutes!

Pussies... I saw damn near 140 just North of the Gobi one year. Then damn near -50 the next. High desert, in a bowl, massive temperature inversion. Why anyone lives there is anyone's guess. I think it's where the Chinese finally gave up and quit chasing them. Then they built a wall to make sure they stayed...

I'm dying when it gets near 90 here. Humidity is in the 80s.

102% relative humidity yer ass

I called a TV weatherman when I lived in Houston. He was talking about 102% humidity. So I call down there, nice young lady puts me on hold. I guess I should not be surprised, they just read the teleprompter, what else is he to going to do when he is not in front of a camera? He actually got on the phone and explained it to me. I was thinking 100% was the top of the scale, but it is relative humidity, there is an unfortunate confluence of temperature, barometric pressure and dew point

102% is just wrong. 100* and 102% humidity is evil.

Dry heat is less oppressive than wet for sure, especially if you are sitting in the shade. If it is a buck fifteen, don't tell me about dry heat. Standing around an a big slab of asphalt when it is hot is brutal. I wonder how Stockton will be in a couple weeks? Thank goodness we get that delta breeze, so it cools off at night.

Not looking forward to this heat wave. Our 70's single story 2200 sq/ft home is poorly insulated and we will kick off the AC tomorrow morning. My SDG&E electric bill will jump from $200 low season to $700+ the next billing cycle.

My bad, I should have not waited to self install a whole house fan.

So what's the purpose of a whole house fan when it's damn hot outside?
I have one in a back bedroom ceiling...20", 2 spd.
I've used it in the fall and spring to pull cool air in and to freshen up the joint.
