A 67 912 Sold Today For

https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/1967-PORSCHE-912-COUPE/36657562/LotDetail.asp?lid=36657562&rfpb=0#Top

If you ask me that is a fair amount of change for a 4 banger? Remember these prices DO NOT INCLUDE BUYERS PREMIUM. Also the UK auction is in Pounds Sterling so the exchange rate has to be applied. Todays rate is 1.31 USD to the Pound.

Or a 72 S in the UK...about 120K USD

A 69 T Targa in the UK

Those are all LHD....
Are the ones you have seen for lots more UK RHD cars? Usually command a serious premium...

Do ya think that the 72 S will wind up in the USA or maybe Germany on a flip? Where left handed drive cars are the norm. 120K US might be cheap for that car...

Why the big fascination with the '72S Tabby? Trust me, they aren't all that great. Maybe worth half of $120K as far as driving fun is concerned.
Pretty boring car, actually.

(edit) there is a market discussion board here. Didn't ya know that?

Just out of the military at 21 yrs. of age and ready to write a $5,600 OTD check for a new maroon '67 912. A phone call to the dealer away from the purchase.
I had already test driven the car and in my heart it was mine. I spent a few sleepless nights dreaming of it. I could almost taste it.
But I was working for the gov't and with a wise man who had tons in mutual funds.
He convinced me to get into the market by almost shaming me for "blowing" money on a car.
Knowing me and the lower middle income class from which I came, I would have cherished that car forever.
I remember the pain of going with my head and not my heart. And I secretly hated that guy for being a wise man.
BTW, the money I put into mutual funds grew rapidly. But not having that car haunted me for years.

That pristine cali 912 I almost bought for $4500, but didn't because the seller was 'difficult' or rather anxious on the phone, it was too far a drive, and the wrong color.
That cali '73 Honda CVCC I almost bought for $500.
That cali 71' bus the owner wanted to give me for $500 after I helped him push it up a hill off the road.
Those houses in this neighborhood I once wanted to buy for $40/50/60k now worth much more than that.

I did buy a clean '67 912 for $4500 when I was 25. Glad that I did too.

My father sold his Bizzarrini 5300 GT just a few years after buying it. I still have the rear scripts from it as he had it repainted and never remounted them.

Yellow color? From a guy in the NorCal east bay area?

That's true right now but LHD cars have a world wide market. So in the long run they'll do better IMO.

Peter,

Indeed... on the flip side there are so few rHD cars full stop that between the UK/ Aus/ Japanese market there is a very well funded pool of informed purchasers..this may ensure the premium is maintained...

Not sure and as mine is LHD my perspective is different.

There are limited numbers of good condition old RHD cars in the UK as they tend to dissolve in the wet climate. So this keeps the price up. And the days of buyers trips to South Africa+Australia+New Zealand seem to be over as our prices are right up there too.

Thanks guys...

Another interesting example. Genuine 73 RS Touring converted to RHD in the UK before being brought to Australia.

About ten years ago it was sold for $150,000 to a local guy I know personally.
He's planning to convert it back to LHD but it will cost him a small fortune to do this.

Meanwhile someone in the club just offered him $320,000 they way it is now! I wish I had such problems.

I sold my 72s about 10 years ago. At the time I could have then purchased a 1000 shares of AMZN.

That would be worth a cool million today.
