I am an old fart .
But years ago I did the Dojo thing.
The Sensei not only demanded proper methods he demanded proper respect for all things as in holistic.
It for sure was/is an art.
I don't understand your condensation towards women, or calling full grown men women.
This behavior would never fit the discipline.
But alas, everything seems to get watered dwn and cheap.

I hate to break it to you but the era in which you trained was actually the watered down era. Martial arts was a mystical concept where your sensei was your master. You were taught to adopt a Kwai Chang Cane persona, a focus on humility, gentleness, as if that would make you a better martial artist. BJJ is only about science, that's it, there is no mystical side to it. What happens is that as you train you learn humility from being constantly chocked out, arm locked or heel hooked. Most people quit within the first 3 to 6 months because of too much ego. It sucks getting chocked out by some dude 40 lbs lighter than you, but you suck it up and get better because you keep your ego in check and realize that there is always someone better. I've earned to right to be cocky in my BJJ skills. That doesnt mean I'll try and get into fights, in fact I haven't been in a street fight in 20 years, but if I see someone dissing a sport that I'm passionate about and they clearly know nothing about it, they will get called out.

Back on topic, rumor at the cigar lounge has it a professional boxer said Mayweather wins in round three. That's his best guess, not a fix or anything.

Place your bets.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Betting Reportedly May Surpass Super Bowl

"We knew this fight would be big, potentially even bigger than the Super Bowl, but now we are almost certain it will be. The recent trash talking and promotional tour is only encouraging bets and at this rate we cannot even imagine how much we will take on it. One thing is for sure though, we will need Mayweather huge. A McGregor early round KO as he promised would be a potential disaster and is partly a reason we are giving a great price on Mayweather at the moment."

That's quite the judgment, Jeff. I'm thinking that you may have gotten caught up in yourself. :)

You read way, way too much into that statement. Just yanking his chain...

I'd hazard a guess that when in my prime I'd incur less damage being confronted by a skilled boxer than a skilled MMA.
My thoughts, anyway.

I agree whole heartedly. In a street fight, bar fight, or what have you - with no rules, no referee - the MMA guy will do a lot more damage.

We are, however, discussing a boxing match. Or at least most of us are, while some sniveling punk is doing his best to drown us out with his cries for attention.

Rod - no one cares about your belts. The only thing now "painfully obvious" about them is that you somehow escaped the humbleness and humility that is developed through true mastery and the hard work necessary to obtain it. Your attitude here is more indicative of someone who "earned" these levels in a video game. Or maybe you've been telling your mom to buy the cereal boxes that say "kids! - free inside! your very own ninja belt! collect all five colors!".

Funny thing is that I never brought up belts, you did when you assumed that I practiced Karate and was counting belts. I'm just a lowly Purple belt, and 90% of the time I train no-gi anyway. You were the one talking about golden gloves. Thats your version of a belt, only you got that 40 years ago and havent trained since then. SmileWavy

+1.

I'd like to see how his BJJ training holds up in a boxing match. That's a lot more relevant to this thread.

I maintain that a video of Rodrsr boxing might be more interesting than this PPV bout.

Id probably get my azz kicked if I couldn't use my ground game. I'm not much of a puncher/kicker which is why I'm a grappler. BJJ and Sambo with some light Judo and wrestling take downs. I do sales so I cant walk around with bruises, plus I hate getting hit in the face.

On a somewhat related note.

I find this far more entertaining than 2 guys that seem like they want to kill each other.

Mayweather-McGregor Will Be Shown in Movie Theaters Across the Country

Has something like this ever been done before?

Will it become a new trend?

I watched the Thrilla in Manila in a movie theater.

Was that a documentary film after the fact?

Another legacy of this fight was its pioneering use of communication technology. On September 30, 1975, HBO became the first television network in history to deliver a continuous signal via satellite by broadcasting the "Thrilla in Manila".[25] This revolutionary event linking satellites with cable turned cable television from a re-transmitter to a program provider.[26]

Don Ro 07-25-2017 11:09 PM

Not a doc.
I'm assuming it was in real time. As I recall, the theater event began in the early eve.

kach22i 07-27-2017 02:18 PM

This documentary film is a sobering reminder of what can happen in a boxing match, any boxing match.

The Good Son

Director Jesse James Miller
Starring Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Ed O'Neill, Mickey Rourke, Sugar Ray Leonard

In the 1980s, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini wasn't merely the lightweight champ?he was a national hero, the real Rocky. From the mobbed-up steel city of Youngstown, Ohio, Mancini was cast as the savior of a sport: a righteous kid in a corrupt game,*fighting for those left behind in busted-out mill towns across America. But most of all, he fought for his father. Lenny Mancini (the original Boom Boom, as he was called), had been a lightweight contender himself. But the elder Mancini's dream ended on a World War II battlefield in 1944, when fragments from a German mortar shell nearly killed him. Almost four decades later, Ray promised to win the title his father could not. What came of that vow was a feel-good fable for network television. But it all came apart on November 13, 1982, in a brutal battle at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Mancini's Korean challenger, Duk Koo Kim, went down in the 14th round and never regained consciousness. Made thirty years after that nationally televised bout, THE GOOD SON is an intimate history, a saga of fathers and fighters, and a tale of loss and redemption.

Yes, we did this for the Mayweather vs Ortiz PPV. I specifically remember that it was a very select number of theaters, though, so I'm sure the reach is much bigger this time around.*

*I no longer have any contacts with Mayweather's team, HBO, SHO or Golden Boy Promotions anymore. So, my boxing insider knowledge is all very dated.
