As fixed as boxing is, and many will say that this match had to have Floyd win for the sake of the sports honor. It wouldn't have to be fixed. The champ boxer will win at boxing.

Looks like they both walked away with a nice purse and rightfully so.

Now, how about Floyd going octagon? Put him up against MacGregor in an MMA bout? Hmmmmm....

No chance of Mayweather doing any MMA fighting but McGregor would kill him in the octagon. Floyd doesn't know how to wrestle or any of that stuff they do in MMA. CM would kick him in the head.

CM has nothing to be ashamed of after tonight. He lasted 10 rounds w a world champion boxer and went out on his feet. Yes, he was about to be knocked out but still, an amazing performance that absolutely no one else in his sport could have pulled off, IMO. Major respect for the guy.

it was an entertaining fight. that's all I hoped for.

svandamme 08-27-2017 03:08 AM

just seen the fight : meh... for all the hype they did over this.
For all the money that exchanged hands.

It did not convince me.
First 5 rounds Floyd just let Connor wear himself moving fast and setting up for moves he couldn't do anyway. Like expending power but still having the brakes on because it's not MMA and he could not do what he would normally do

Last 5 rounds Floyd kept up his pace, Connor slowed down and that was it.

Mostly as was predicted... They all made a lot of money
And a lot of people payed for a very expensive exhibition match.

The better fight was the second match of the night. Those guys could box.

Yup, and saying he beat Rocky Ms record...oh ya, no. There is no way this fight should count on his card - its like a champ fighting a bear or a pro wrestler. Boxing really is such a foolish sport. I liked the old UFC - anything goes but eye gouging and nut punches. Bare fisted. Fight till you drop.

Just like football should be sans helmets and pads but who am I but a silly old man with silly ideas.

When this thread first started I was hoping for McGregor for the fun of it. Then I read more posts. Then I called a pal who is a boxing nut. His feedback was a terse "Mayweather is a boxer". Then I saw the 40-1 odds. Sigh.

Enjoyed the fight.

Watched the youtube replay. McGregor was whupped from the opening bell, Mayweather controlled it all, even the rounds he "lost" while waiting for McGregor to tire.

Kind of like Hamilton trying to outdrive a top fuel driver at the strip...or the reverse.

You can't do modern Football without helmets and pads.

Today's NFL players are just too big, fast, and strong.

You'd have to slow the sport down considerably.

Interesting read.

I'm not sure I agree with that. He got stunned a couple of times. Up until about round 5, I thought McGregor was gonna win.

I lost my $20 by taking McGregor for the knockout in the second, paid $25 to watch it in a sports bar, $50 in spiked Ubers. Fantastic guys night out SmileWavy

Are we ready to pay for for the rematch? McGregor rools?

MacGtegor has no prior public boxing matches.

There was really no "tape" for Mayweather to study.

Advantage MacGregor.

Mayweather really had only two choices.

Go in aggressively for a quick win and leave himself open for getting his clock cleaned or do what has worked his entire career, rely on his defensive skills to buy him time to figure out how MacGregor fights.

Get a sense of his style, timing, how he reacts to offense and let him wear himself down.

A professional fighter is going to get hit, no way around that and Floyd knew exactly what he was doing.

The fight went exactly the way he wanted it to go including taking some shots early on.

Yep, Mayweather explained his fight plan right after the fight, he did it his way.

McGregor has nothing to be ashamed about or to apologize for, he did his best and it was much better than anyone would have guessed.

Payday for both, everyone should be happy.

My only complaints is that it was on so late (Eastern Standard Time), and my buddy's outdoor viewing setup got real cold. I dressed in layers but was still a popsicle.

All it cost me was a Costco cheesecake and some Sander's hot fudge that I got on sale.

Good food, good cigars, good friends, a time to remember.

Right on on all counts. McGregor showed some real heart and never gave up. He would have fought 'til he dropped before he ran out of heart. Mayweather played it like the consummate pro facing an unknown commodity - cautious at first, but taking notes and adjusting on the fly until he had McGregor's number. Once Mayweather decided he had him figured out and it was time to go, it was over.

I would like to see McGregor pursue his boxing career a bit further. He might actually have a future in it...

Best part - that fabulous Lennon voice. Jimmy Lennon, Jr.

I thought the fight was stopped one KO too early.

A big part of why they get the injuries they do is the protective equipment. For example, if you did not have a face mask, you would be much more circumspect about what you do with your head. All the gear gives you a sense of invincibility.

According to McGregor's FB page, it sounds like if it happens it will be boxing rules, but skinny gloves.

He sounds like a complete fool to get arrested like that, he won good money,
enough for most to be able to retire if he wanted too.

But he will end up a like a classic poor dumb knocked out one to many times irishman if he keeps up his current game.

Cause sooner or later he will get his bells rung in or out of the ring, and sooner or later his ability to earn money will be surpassed by his ability to loose money on lawyers and entourage.

Exactly. Look at rugby players.

I follow him on Instagram, he is the epitome of what we call trailer trash here in the States.

He is no enamored with his expensive watches cars etc... It is hard to watch him pissing his money away so fast. For a month after the fight he was on a hired mega yacht in the Mediterranean touring. He always flies private.

I know it is not in the fabric of people like him, IMHO he hit the lottery and with a few smart moves could disappear and live a very comfortable life.

I predicted a month after the fight he will be through his money and go looking for another big payday.

He may have ruined that with his antics the other night in NY.

svandamme 04-10-2018 08:00 PM

He'll repeat that until he finds and fights one to many paydays and end up drooling in a wheelchair while his last dollar or euro is stolen from under his wheelchair cushion..
But the Irish in Dublin's poor areas will talk bout his legendary fighting for hundres of years to come..cause that's all they have.So he has got that going for him
which is nice
