Prices have dropped quite a bit in the last year on the earlies. I could never figure out why people were paying so much. I took Annie out this morning as I do every 3 or 4 weeks. I still don't think they are worth what people are paying today.

Having an inner drive to achieve for the sake of status in society. In the animal kingdom you would get to fk all the good looking females. In the end as you will find out it is a superficial accomplishment. As you still have to contend with the existential struggles that lie within. Everybody has to wrestle with the Lions in the night. Even if it is being at the mercy of the vicissitudes of the fates. Tossed and turned like a stick of wood in a turbulent ocean. A fact of life is that the less one knows about those Lions in the night the more advantage someone like me has. You can be out maneuvered and or manipulated. That btw is the value in having wrestled with those Lions if you were wondering

I sold my '72S about 10 years ago. It had nothing to do with money or wrestling lions. I simply got bored with it and some of those the car attracted. Damn near had it crushed just to piss a few of the right people off.
I feel sorry for the "how much is it worth?" set. They may carefully track prices of things, but have little clue about what is valuable.

For me if it were about maximizing the value of stuff there is a lot of stuff that would be gone... I like my old 911S and the money end is nice but is not the reason why I keep and like it. When you have substantial assets that are worth a buck or two you have to keep an eye on their value. It is called doing your do diligence and being a responsible Shepard. Do you track the value of your house, your bank accounts, your stocks..enough said?

So, did you ever get your old 911S drivable? Or is it still a dead car only to be looked at?

Gee, I actually did get your allegorical reference to Lion wrestling. Not bad for a dumb country bumpkin, eh?
Well Tabby, why not either sell that 911S or restore it? Life is short, you know. I honestly didn't have a clue about our net worth until Cindy recently dragged me to an attorney for the purpose of setting up a trust. I guess my recent AFIB diagnosis triggered that. I want to cut out the Govt. as much as possible when I croak. Anyway, for the time left, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to have a place to sleep, enough to eat, and a car that takes me to the pool hall and back. For the way I use a car these days, an '09 Mustang is far superior to an old 911S. In an odd way, I suppose I should thank those few who angered me enough to decide to leave the early 911 scene.

Nice 912s have been selling for 40-50s for a while now and have not dropped that much, but I agree with your sentiment... I sold both mine last year because they jumped over my personal cost/fun ratio. Lovely cars, but $40K+ for 90hp and an engine that costs as much as a 911s to rebuild kinda baffled me... If you believe folks on the 912 registry 912s are practically more expensive than 911Ts now ;-) hmm, nope, sorry...

I sold my 1967 912 for $8500 about 15 years ago. I should have held onto it!!!

Paul , not meaning to be nosy, or disrespectful, but curious as to what happened that made you so jaded about that old s car. Did someone try something sleazy to pry it from your hands? Did you not like the attention that it garnered ?
I'm just trying to understand how owning a beautiful, and one of the most coveted p cars, cold be such a negative experience. I feel differently about my 930 now that the value has climbed, but 'I'm not mad . I've even had a few people make me offers on it that I thought were insanely low. I said "no" and moved on . By the way, I love my mustang for all the same reasons you love yours. There is truly a freedom in having a fun useful car that you are not worried about . Just curious about the "S" . You can tell me to mind my business if you want

Adios, old friend... (edit) And yes, an '09 Mustang Bullitt edition is no '72 911S. But for me, that's a good thing.

Paul, no doubt a cheap Kia or Hyundai is a better car than your old 911. They would be faster, safer and way more comfortable. They will never be treasured or restored, just crushed and recycled. You old 911 will be around long after all of us are gone.
I am glad to see the coming of the self driving or fully automatic car. By the time they are prefected and affordable, I will be done with cars and ready to poke a button on my cell phone-brain-implant computer and have the car take me where I need to go.

Had a really nice one in today. Grandpa bought brand new, handed down to son, then handed down to his son. They drive it . Really nice car. I can see why they have gone up in value. It makes all the right sounds, and is super fun to drive . takes one back to a simpler time for sure.
