Omar Kadhr settlement = $10.5M... A GREAT BIG WTF!!!
Omar Khadr: Ex-Gitmo detainee who killed US soldier receives millions from Canada | Fox News
I'm surprised that this hasn't been brought up already. This is currently a very hot topic up here in Canada and probably not so much for you Americans. As a Canadian I am truly disgusted that we law abiding tax payers are gonna reward a terrorist with a $10.5M payout because his charter rights were violated! ![]()

You need to visit PARF. It's been on a thread for a while over there.

FYI - MOST Canadians did not support this behind the scenes settlement. This is our Drama Teacher Mental Midget Prime Minister's agenda and is NOT representative of what most Canadians would like to have seen our hard earned tax dollars spent on.

It is entirely possible that the $10M was a good deal. he may have been awarded $20M by the courts.
The federal government should have left him to rot in Gitmo. That was some pretty expense intel they got from him in Cuba. The scchit-apple didn't fall far from the scchit-tree Ricky.

This settlement is a national embarrassment, Trudeau should have passed a law in the House and then defied the SC....he would have gotten bipartisan support for sure. Dennis |

I was up in Toronto last week for a company function when I saw this. I thought surely this was a mistake or I was missing something. Nope....could not believe this. It's the opposite extreme to our president of Twitter. Just shows that the extremes of either side is not a good thing... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I never said I liked it, there was no good resolution once the Supreme court ruled in Khadr's favour.
The impetus for the lawsuit was a violation of his rights that occurred under the previous liberal government, hence my comment about leaving him to rot rather than using CSIS agents to question him. The liberals are simply minimizing the damage that was done years ago. I am no fan of the current PM, but I would like to know what people think should have been done? An act or parliament over-ruling the Supreme court decision? A change to the Charter? Using the 'notwithstanding' clause? I don't like it, but I understand it. He's a citizen of convenience from a family of terrorists. The charter doesn't allow us to apply to different rules to people like him. That's the price we pay.

PARF stands for Politics and Religion Forum. I think this qualifies. That's why it's mostly been discussed there.

The chretien government was in power when this started. They could have averted all this mess by passing a simple law that takes away the citizenship of anyone who goes and fights for a enemy of Canada. We used to call it treason and hang those people but we live in a enlightened society that says the Charter of Rights applies to convicted admitted murders who commit these crimes in another country and are tried by another country in another country. Now we have to give him a big bag of money for something that didn't happen in Canada and apologise for it. I'm one of the 71% of Canadians who think this decision is wrong. If he wants a apology he should go to the USA and ask for one. Too bad he's a convicted murder there and would get locked up to serve the rest of his sentence.

Saying it's 'stupid' is just juvenile name calling. Give us a viable and legal solution that is superior to settling out of court.
Offering alternate suggestions for events that have already occurred is easy. Deal with the present day situation.
