This is one of two forums I go to every lunch hour. The other one is the MG Experience, the MGB forum. Very similar actually, with a group of very knowledgeable posters, some smug smart-ass ones, and just a lot of really great guys willing to help. The age of the members in each is similar too, although I think this forum has more younger members. After all, who didn't grow up wanting a Porsche! :D

Been a member a long time and there are not many days when I DON'T take a look and see what is going on. The tech forum is hands down the best around for completing any job on my car. Thanks Wayne.

I withhold comment regarding the aspersions cast toward PARF, an integral part of PPOT.

I think what makes this forum so great is that the topic (do-it yourself German car repair) kind of selects for older (than teenagers) people who tend to like to dig into and understand topics. This is great for the forums official topic, but tends to mean members are experts in other areas as well.

I am real happy PARF is a forum in a separate area.

And it is also nice Wayne does not allow the rampant cussing on some forums. The occasional expletive is almost needed to get some points expressed. I have seen some forums and heard some you-tube videos that is more profanity than not. It gets tedious pretty fast and I don't mind cussing when warranted.

And there must be a billion sites to see boobies or more, we do not need that here. I like the female form a lot, but it is nice to open Pelican and not have to worry who might see over my shoulder.

Thanks Wayne, I will send double my subscription payment at the next renewal!

Good point, there is one rule over on BF - NWS needs to be in a thread title for that to be allowed.

Let me just say it puts the post a pic of your S/O on a entire different level. Well, until a gay guy posts pic of his S/O and derails the place. Which I find very amusing.

Dang, I miss that place gonna have to log in more often.

No question about Pelican being preferable to Rennlist. PP has by far the best OT forum that I've found, too. I actually learn quite a bit here ;^)

David 07-17-2017 01:13 PM

I learned early on in Pelican life that if you don't REALLY know the answer to someone's question, just be quiet and wait because someone who's been there and done that will chime in with the real answer. That's not to say I don't post some bonehead comments every now and then but I try to stick to my area of expertise whatever that is.

I come here to see all the "vetted" news, not one of the networks. There is usually several subjects being discussed that I can add some knowledge, and several more that are new to me. There are also the threads that I don't care one whit about, but still might read for curiosity.

I haven't found anything else on the ole interwebs that compares to the volume, and collective knowledge about the numerous subjects. It's car forums, and off topic discussions without all the jocular posturing so prevelant in other automotive venues.

Guys/Gals - thank you all for the kind words. We strive to make this a place where people not only gather helpful info, but also go to chat with their buddies. As in insight, we have weekly meetings specifically on the forums/social to make sure that we're doing the best we can. I've seen many members start off as 'newbies' and quickly develop a great re pore with the community - we can't take all the credit, as you guys are the ones registering and recommending the forum :)

Jims5543 07-17-2017 01:39 PM

I remember lurking here in 2004 just watching OT while I researched Porsches.

I remember being terrified that I would somehow garner Tabs attention once I started posting.

rusnak 07-17-2017 02:18 PM

I come here for the free stuff we get in the double top secret by invitation only OT forum.

That, and being a smart alec.

herr_oberst 07-17-2017 02:31 PM

(oh, yeah! Dmitry - I forgot to say thanks for the free stuff! - I'll always have your back, bro!)

PP rocks, that's for sure. I've been on some other decent forums. I've been on some other forums that were solid like for time pieces whether it be watches or clocks. I've also recently started spending time on a couple of orchid forums and there are some great folks there as well.

There are some good folks on the miata forum, especially considering the fact that they are attainable for just about anyone. Fortunately, they are mostly ignored by the civic/JDM crowd, but that place doesn't hold a candle to PP.

I do have 2 or 3 folks on ignore which I think is reasonable since I've been here for almost 18 years with the bulk of that being on PPOT. I think all of the folks that I put on ignore were eventually banned.

I sold my P-car and had 2 miata for 8-10 years. I've got another P-car and I'm still here, but not for my car's tech board.

Miata.net is also a great forum. Lots of Miata owners also own some pretty nice iron.

I think what you get here at Pelican tends to be commensurate to what you give, so if you are happy here, I think that says a lot about you as a person.

sammyg2 07-17-2017 02:49 PM

I've been hanging out there for 17 years, hoping that some day i'd land my dream job. A PPOT MODERATOR.
i heard they make the HUGE bucks!

Hard to beat the variety of content on ADV Rider.....Even a Porsche section.
