Is Pelican the highest-quality forum on the internet?

There are forums for pretty much any topic and whenever I'm researching something I usually end up reading some forum posts. However, the members on most forums are usually immature, uninformed slobs who seem to be of below-average intelligence.

But Pelican is different. The vast majority of the members are civil, intelligent, versed in a wide range of topics and willing to learn. Many of the greats of the Porsche community have a presence here.

It's interesting how a lot of us got into P-cars or other German cars for what's now almost peanuts but we have such a strong concentration of doctors, lawyers, engineers, pilots, CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, military officers, etc among us.

Interesting points. Sometimes things get out of hand. For instance when somebody thinks they can win an argument on this forum it becomes mission impossible. The back and forth goes on until somebody gets banned for bad behavior.

I have not found another forum that compares to this one. There are some amazing folks here.:)

I am on many forums and this one is the best. Particularly PPOT. Amazing people here.

As a contrast (amongst Porsche guys at least) it's disappointing how many a**hats are on Rennlist, I have at least 3 people on my "ignore" list on that forum. I've never needed to use the ignore function on Pelican.

It's truly a great forum. The guys here are super helpful and the topics on OT are great. Avoid PARF at all costs. Some real "edge of the bell curve" trolls reside on there who really exemplify the state of politics today. I often come here for advice on the most broad of topics. A daily habit.

I've always been impressed with the variety of backgrounds and the willingness to offer assistance, advice, and compassion.
I haven't found an internet forum anywhere near this one.
And my friends often hear me say something about what I've read here.
They no longer ask, "Huh? Pelican what?"
Amazing, really.

Amen to that, this place is just filled with polite knowledgeable people. I've gone to some other car forums and people there just seem to feel the need to answer questions without a clue to what the real solution is and pass it off as fact.

I spend way too much time here- had to go cold turkey a couple of times so I could get actual stuff done!

I tend to get better information here than on topic-specific forums. Simply the best forum on the Internet.

wdfifteen 07-16-2017 04:25 PM

I like it here. PPOT is a source of a wide range of information. Some people have left because we are too harsh, but this is the most civil of any forum I use.

Oh, and let's not forget Wayne's grand generosity for providing this arena.

JackDidley 07-16-2017 04:44 PM

The best. Its a forum with dignity.

That nearly everyone here is at least chronologically an adult helps tonnes. Occasionally some parfaits will wander away from their pen and crap all over a thread but generally not.

I agree 100%. I've been reading this forum since I was a teenager and purchased my 944. I would definitely be an average millennial if it wasn't for this place.

fanaudical 07-16-2017 05:09 PM

It's certainly the highest quality that I have found - and that includes several professional engineering and science related forums. PPOT is my favorite.

Bimmerforums is up there with Pelican. Except the trolls there lurk in OT and OT there is Rated R as in 18 and older content, cursing allowed and topless pics allowed. (at least 2 years ago when I was regular there)

There are also some very accomplished people on there and many very intelligent people as well. Their OT makes this forums PARF look tame. That says a lot.

I felt there were too many over the top mean people on there and was not enjoying myself on there anymore, I check in once in a blue moon there and use the technical forums a lot. Just not a regular in OT there anymore.

Jims5543 07-16-2017 05:27 PM

Also, most all car forums are about dead. A big shift occurred to social media and forums get left behind. Many forums I frequented in the 90's and early 2000's are gone or just sit dormant now.

id10t 07-16-2017 05:32 PM

Yes.

I rank the folks here in PPOT right up there with the slashdot crowd as far as intelligence and wisdom. However, there is a much wider experience range here, as well as overlap from the slashdot crowd.

pwd72s 07-16-2017 05:36 PM

Gosh, ain't we NEAT???

stealthn 07-16-2017 07:29 PM

It's a combination of education and age, both of those tend to present better people

pc100porsche 07-16-2017 08:55 PM

Porsche side is GREAT ! .... BMW Forum is whisper quiet

2porscheguy 07-17-2017 11:09 AM

As OP stated, we have such a wide variety of "experts" in practically all fields here so pretty much any query will get a pretty accurate response and usually quite pronto from some member! That is really COOL!

Ya, you get the odd ongoing scrum and pissing match where all you can do is bring out the popcorn and just sit back and watch the trainwreck unfold!::eek::rolleyes::(:p ......but how often does that happen?

PPOT is definitely my go-to forum!
