That was really the highlight for me. I've watched every movie of his that I could get my hands on.

I screwed uo.
I was REALLY looking forward to seeing it with high expectations. Then, I watched the "battle of scariff" scenes from the youtube. It was okay, but in 2 minutes felt like I had watched the whole movie. I watched it again and again, thinking I was watching clipped excerpts- but NO- it was the entire finale/clmax of the film.

What I noticed was this-
1- The soundtrack was rushed, as noted in comments as audio only had about a month to do their thing after film remakes. Just taking a John Williams soundtrack would have been a vast improvement (as one youtuber actually did)
2- no character development. They come and go in blips. I loved it, yet, like the new star trek Into darkness, there was no connection. I don't know if this is a new millenial thing, or I am just getting old.

Am I wrong? Should I go watch the full movie????? Please advise!!!!!

I love Star Wars. I have netflix. All I have to do is hit play, yet, I feel uncompelled, as if only going through the motions... please tell me to hit the play button!!!!!

Click here- fast forward to 3:46, and enjoy!!!!

Yes, watch the entire movie.

The main character is developed through it. The cast of characters around her, not so much but enough that you end up liking them and pulling for them.

It is truly a Episode 3.5 ending seconds before Episode 4 starts.

Out of the last 5 Star wars movies made (1,2,3, 7 and this 3.5) it is by far my favorite.

The last few SW were just confusing to me.
New characters randomly pop up, are supposed to mean something, and then quickly die or disappear.

Who are all these people?
Why bother paying attention when there is simply no plot to follow?
Is this before or after A New Hope? Why don't we get a small hint through the technology or a reference at least?
Another death star? Are you freaking kidding me?

Just watched it on a return flight from India. I thought it was great! They did a great job of tying it into the first movie.

This is the original death star from the first movie (as in the the very first movie from the 70s). This explains why Princess leia was running with the plans to the death star.

This is how the plans for the original Death star were stolen.

Had this been filmed "in order" it would have preceded the original Star Wars.

This film actually ends on Star Wars opening scene.

SPOILERS FOLLOW

A New Hope is Episode 4

Rogue One is Episode 3.5

Spoiler Alert:

It shows how it came about that the Rebels got their hands on the plans for the death star and how there was purposefully built in a security flaw that made the Death Star vulnerable. That would have been built in by Jyn's father who was the lead engineer forced to design and oversee its completion.

This movie literally ends second before A New Hope starts and I felt it was brilliantly done.

More spoilers.

The cast was fantastic, so much so it had to be painful to not be able to develop them more than they did. With A New Hope starting as this ended, how would you explain a sudden new cast member that was not originally there?

So the entire cast had to be killed off, and I thought that was a refreshing change form all the feel good crap Hollywood puts out.

Like back to Reservoir Dogs type of script. Bold!

Like Vash I plan on taking this one it a couple of more times.

It was WAAAYYYYY better than SW, The Force Awakens.

I thought the girl was better cast. i was skeptical about it, but ended up being blown away by the directing.

Yeah that became obvious at the end, thank you, but the rest of the film was deepfried/frozen/merange/flambe/grape/nutmeg/chicken/sriracha/icecream/salad with extra pepper. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly and need to see it again. It just didn't click the first time.

I liked it but it seemed a little dark/mature at times for a kids series. Like Hayden Christensen reposed in a red lava world and screaming for half the movie while burning alive. I'd rather watch real african or mexi narco torture instead of that.
The Kyle Ren film before was zippy and light and SW cookie cutter. Terrible acting though. Totally different flavor on par with the series.
(but also sans original witty lines and/or cohesive plot structure)

Yes correct very dark, like your adopted family being wiped out and their burnt corpses being shown in Episode 4. Or Han Solo shooting someone in cold blood.

Totally much lighter feeling.

After seeing Rogue One in the theater, my immediate reaction was it was better than Episode 7. I really enjoyed the character tie-ins, Saw Gerrera from both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, and Chopper and the Ghost from Rebels.

I have watched Rogue One a few times since and each time I see something new. That didn't happen with The Force Awakens.

I think the stand alone movies might just turn out to be better than the trilogy series films. Hope they make an Ahsoka Tano stand alone film similar to Rogue One.

I just rewatched this the other night.

Can I just say the locations are gorgeous? Iceland in the beginning, French Polynesia at the end. Ugh. Take me away!!!!!!!

Neither of our kids (boy, 7 - girl 15) thought Force Awakens felt like one of the original SW movies.

Both liked R1 but 15 minutes before the end the 7 year old blurts out loudly "I hate Disney" because he knew what the ending would be.

The droid was the droid I have been looking for.

In 7, Kylo was just a 5 year old in a 25 year old body. Not a villain as much as a spoiled little brat.

My personal rating Star Wars from best to worst:

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) A New Hope
3) Rogue One
4) Return of the Jedi
5) The Force Awakens
6) Episodes I-III (they all sucked donkey dong)

Trooped and saw it twice in 3D. First time I thought it was ok. The 2nd time around I hated it. The reason I hated it is 2 minutes before we left the house to drive to the show. I saw on Drudge that Carrie had a heart attack on the plane. I knew she was brain dead and a goner so I was pissed when I saw it the 2nd time.

Anyway on more viewings I like it quite a bit. I love K-2S0 and Donny Yen and Jiang Wen are the ****! Its too bad they died they made a killer duo.

I didn't like Felicity Jones very much because her lines in the trailers were horrible and she has a punchable face to boot. After seeing the ultra charming Daisy Ridley its hard to fill her shoes.

What I don't like about Star Wars is Kathleen Kennedy is hiring a bunch of subpar millennial directors to make girl power Star Wars movies.
