I am not as excited about the new Gt as the last generation or the original but very cool. It's amazing that the engine is based on the F-150 V6.

The new one is not very pretty.

He can afford a $500,000.00 car, in fact multiple 6 and 7 figure cars, but he can't pony up a coupla few K to fix his driveway?

Watched the first 1/3rd of the video, pretty good so far.
Nice car, a real history to it, not a poser.

I would love one of the new GTs if one was given to me, but if I had a choice, I would prefer one of the previous gen or an original or even a good copy of an original.

Actually, it takes more than money to buy the new GT. People actually had to fill out a form, perhaps make a video as an application to buy one. As Jay said, Ford hoped to cut out the flippers & pimps of the collector car world. I can imagine Jay's application: "Hey, you know I'm not a flipper."
More people failed to make the list than got one of those boxes in the opening of the video. Only 500 got the box out of the thousands who applied.

Actually, so did the original. You're probably too young to remember that...

Actually this is the car that ruined barrett-jackson for me. As a wee lad, the family was in downtown Denver and there, just parked on the side of the road, was a road legal brand new GT40. Not a Ford GT (that was 30 years yet to come), not a VW with a fiberglass body, but a real, wire wheel GT40. Now when I watch Barrett-Jackson and I hear "One of three Cuda's or Camaro or Mustang or whatever in this color", I think "So What? Earl Scheib can fix that! I have seen a real GT40. That is a limited product car" To whoever parked their GT40 on the street in downtown Denver in the late 60's early 70's, Thank You. You made an 8 year olds day/month/year.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps you spotted Grady Clay's 904? He drove it on the streets of Denver back in the day...

Side note. I was at a Denver Pcar meet and was talking with Grady. I had commented that (at that time) I had never heard a 4 cam motor run. Grady casually commented, Grady always casually commented, "I have owned over twenty 4 cam motors in my time." Wish I had gotten to know him better.

The new GT is an incredible looking car, I love that form follows function and it has a legitimate racing pedigree. I suspect that these will turn out to be $500k well spent for a few lucky owners.

Well, the new one won it's class... hardly the same feat as the originals, which won the event four times overall, breaking a six-year Ferrari streak of success.
While we are at it, the original name of the original car was a Ford GT, not GT40. There was indeed a street version, with wire wheels, although there were very few of them build (7, I think.) I don't find the newest car particularly interesting, either aesthetically or technically, and I certainly wouldn't throw a half million dollars at it. |

The coolest thing about this car, IMO, is that it basically has two suspension systems: a street system and a track system. The street system makes the car a livable daily driver and uses coil springs. The track system is much stiffer and is a no-compromise race car setup that uses torsion bars. There is a hydraulic system that compresses the street coils, lowering the ride height considerably, that switches to relying solely on the torsion bars.

LeMans GT class rules obviously aren't what they used to be.
