WW 2 Plane I.D.

Can anyone help identify this plane? It's a photo of my Dad, when he was in the Naval Air Corps, late ww2 era. He primarily flew transports and was an instructor.
Thanks!

It fits that he was an instructor as that plane (AT-6) was an advanced fighter trainer.

He got his wings in June 1943 and did much of his instructing in Texas. Then he went to the west coast to fly the transports. I've got his log books, but haven't yet assembled a time line of his flights. He was over the Pacific before hostilities ended, but I don't think he saw any actual combat. There were a few tall tales though...

A Navy "Trainer" of some designation...had that model as a kid...was a beautiful yellow.
That's my contribution.

634 and 323 are probably different aircraft.

The spiky triangle tail identifies the T-6 Texan.
Also, most of the others have oval fuselages and not round like a meatball Zero.

+ 1 on this if he was Navy, SNJ was the Naval designation.
