Meet the New Boss
...same as the old boss.
Presenting Ed, the newest addition to the Higgins household. Purebred Golden Retriever, 17 weeks old. We've had him for about six weeks. This is the first time I've been able to get him to slow down long enough for a pic...

Nice! Good looking pup.
Goldens and labs always seem to be the happiest dogs. Tails always wagging.

My brother is in a wheelchair and goes to Starbucks a LOT. They seem to know him pretty well. I have hit the drive thru on a few occasions and Pepper, my golden hangs out the rear window all excited and says "Hello" to anyone that comes up to the window. She is very popular. Everyone has to come to the window and exchange hellos with her. She often gets puppaccinos, a little paper sample cup with some whipped cream.
The other day I went with my bro to get coffee. The girl at the register acted like she knew him and all, but when I went to give my order she brightened up significantly, asked how Pepper was and if I wanted my usual. All the other baristas had to come over and ask about Pepper. They seemed genuinely disappointed that Pepper wasn't where they could go say hi and have her tell them "Hello" back. My brother always goes to Starbucks and makes a big deal about them knowing him. He always gets the same thing and had to tell them what his order was. Think he was a little put out that Pepper was more popular than he was and that they asked if I wanted "the usual" when he goes there so much more often than I do. Pepper said "Good morning" to them the other day instead of "hello."

From his posture and his attentive face in your photo, Jeff, I'd say he would be easy to train.
Just a thought.

Hope he doesn't decide to scarf a couple of those bent finishing nails. They might be harder to pass than then peach pits.

You've got a winner there, Higgins
I grew up w that breed, the world would be a better place if everyone had a good dog and treated them right.

Thanks guys. Yes, Ed appears to be a rather bright young lad, and has been very easy to train. He already has quite the vocabulary - sit, here, hungry?, outside, down, mark, fetch, drop - and maybe a couple more. For now, though, he is a typical puppy - he obeys only when he wants to. The serious obedience training starts when he's about six months old. I've become a big fan of the "Koehler method", having utilized Mr. Koehler's methods on my last two dogs with outstanding results.
What a little bundle of energy, especially after having grown accustomed to his predecessor, Katie the Wonder Dog. Ed is just filled with boundless exuberance, really digging his first four and a half months on this planet. Everyone he meets is his new best friend for life, every place he goes is his new favorite place. And he is already a swimming fool, swimming just because, whether he is retrieving or not. So full of life.
