Got pulled over by the po po today...
I was driving down 400 in Alpharetta in heavy traffic talking to my wife on the truck speaker phone when I saw a police suv parked perpendicular to 400.
I checked my speed and was it was right on the money but saw him turn his wheels and pull out after I passed him. About a mile down the road he pulled me over. I got way off the highway and rolled down all my windows and got my license out. He came up from the passenger side, looked in the back, asked for my license and said I crossed over the white line a couple of times (wtf?). No way. He asked if I had a medical condition or had been drinking. I replied no, just tired from 12 hour days. He ran my license and came back, telling me to be careful out there. No harm no foul. |
I'm surprised. I always felt like the cops on 85 were spectators because they had no chance of pulling over a specific car during rush hour.

At least you were driving on 400........I left work at 4:30 today and from 285 to 400 was a parking lot . I eventually came up on the accident that caused the nightmare !!! But glad you escaped with the warning .

I have been pulled over more than once and that is the standard response. Usually a young kid cop. You crossed over the white line, you crossed over the yellow line. Fortunately I have never received a ticket, probably because I am now an old white guy. How do you defend against that? Your word against theirs. I think it is a way to "create" a good stop and see what you find.

Hot'lanta traffic
I used to live in Marietta and work on Buford Hwy inside 285. For a long time there was a cop that would sit on the side of the road on 285 with his lights flashing. From time to time he would come on the current CB radio channel and tell someone to slow down or "don't get greedy"! This was between 1976 and 1979. Traffic has gotten a WHOLE lot worse since then!

America. You are lucky he didn't shoot you for that.

Something about you truck made him want to have a closer look. Do you have blacked out windows and play Boom Boom rap music? ;)

"I think it is a way to "create" a good stop and see what you find."
~~~~~~~~~ I never thought of that...good point. |
I think from his actions, that it was more likely, a random pull over in search of drugs/contraband in the back of your truck. He gave "crossing the white line" as a convenient means for stopping you. At least they are out there trying to stop this stuff.
You were probably pulled over because you were the ONE person driving the speed limit. That would be very suspicious on 400... SmileWavy
Windows are tinted but not blacked out. No loud music, just talking to my wife. Maybe that caused me to weave? :)
I just don't see how he could see me cross over a line from several hundred feet and a low angle. Quote:
LOL. It's like the Indy 500 out there some times.
Or your truck may be similar to one they're looking for. Just checking to see if you're his guy.
Another good reason to run a dash cam. If, after initiating the contact, he found something and your dash cam could prove you had maintained your lane, his PC for the stop and thus everything thereafter goes out the window. More importantly, a liar is exposed and maybe the state will be more honest in the future.
I was thinking it would have been nice to have a dash cam. Need to look into that now.
I can't remember how long it has been since I have been pulled over. It has been close to 20 years I think. I was driving the 911 and a State Trooper pulled me over and said there was a BOLO out for a late model white 911. I explained I was driving a 1985 model. Of course he ran my insurance and driver's license and it came up clean. He said nice car and let me go on down the road. Besides that it was when I had my 914.
I have not had a ticket since the late 1970s, like 1979 or so. |
Years ago I was driving my '72 along the freeway within a horse shoe shaped formation of cars. We all passed a city police cruiser that pulled behind me and turned on his lights after a couple of moments. When I pulled over, the guy came up on the passenger side & I rolled down the window. He stuck his head in the car & said it was real nice. I asked why he had pulled me over, & he said I was exceeding the speed limit. I got mad & reminded him I was encircled by other cars going the speed limit and told him I didn't appreciate him pulling me over just to look at my car. After a couple of other exchanges of formalities, he told me to have a good day.
