Not Often You Get To Say........

THANK YOU!!! After you are dead but I had that chance today when I visited my local paramedic team.

To make a longish story short at the beginning of July on a Sun. night I had a heart attack which was swiftly followed by a cardiac arrest while at home

I count myself very lucky and totally in debt to all the people, the paramedics, firemen, dispatch operators, doctors, nurses etc involved that evening as they allowed me to beat the grim reaper when the odds were stacked way in his favour. I've come out the other side alive and well enjoying normal life with my family. Even more amazing 5 weeks later I gently eased myself back into work.

I still need to thank the firemen which will be easy as I'll buy them a few pints in the pub after their weekly training evening

This isn't a thread about oohh look at me but a huge THANK YOU shout out to everyone on here that works for the emergency services and has to deal with life and death situations every working day. Without your good work there would be a lot less people counting themselves as lucky as myself.

Wow! Glad you made it through that ordeal. When I hear stories like this, I think about how a situation like it would have turned out decades ago. We're lucky to have the response framework we have now days and luckily we can hear stories like yours that things turned out for the positive. Hope things go well in the future.

It is great to hear stories like yours with the positive outcome.

Just a few years back you would not have made it. Medical Science has come a long way.

The EMTs do an great job. My dad was getting up and around one morning. He took a shower and shaved, got dressed and was winding a wall clock and noticed his hand was not working properly to wind the clock. He lived by himself so he walked to the bathroom and tried to smile. Bingo, a droopy face. He walked to the phone and called 911 and they had the typical response "what it the emergency." He tried to say I think I had a stroke but he said it sounded like the monster in Young Frankenstein, all he could do was a unngggggghhhhh. They rolled out the police, fire and EMT. They all showed up and the cop rang the doorbell. He asked if he need the police and dad just pointed to the EMT and made his grunt sound. They loaded him up and asked if they should call anyone so he opened his cell phone and dialed my number. The EMT said I could meet him at the hospital that specializes in strokes.

By the time I got there he was talking with difficulty, but talking. The magic drugs were administered in time and he had no damage. He was 81 at the time. He was admitted for two days and they sent him home with no lasting effects from the stroke.
