Dog owners told by court to surgically quiet dogs?
Maybe this belongs in PARF, but did anybody else see this?
Owners must surgically 'debark' loud dogs, court rules | OregonLive.com I can understand ordering the dogs off the property - but court-prescribed surgery? Outrageous. |

You live next to a farm. WTF do you expect? If I were those people, I'd get a lot of chickens and roosters.

Crazy bastards. They are lucky they don't live next to me. My border terriers like to do this "wolf howling" thing. they lift their heads up vertically and almost do harmonics with eachother. I tell them off but they can see me laughing so they do it once or twice every few days. It sets the big fat lab' off next door too.

Maybe they should get their ears surgically modified so the sounds don't bother them.
Were the neighbors that have dogs have dogs before the complaining neighbors moved in or versa visa? When I was flying R/C planes. A guy bought land and built a house 1/2 mile from the flying field that had been there for years. When the guy moved in he started complaining about the noise. That he couldn't sit on his back porch and enjoy a quiet evening. He wanted the flying field shut down. The local constabulary and courts both said he could only ask the R/C flyers to not make noise after 10pm or before 8am as was the local laws. And that he would just have to put up with it since the flying field was already there when he bought the property. Funny thing is now there is a 4 lane highway going thru right were the flying filed was. Wonder how he joys that noise?

Sounds like one of my A-hole neighbors who complained to the town that the farmer was making too much noise plowing up the field on a Sunday morning, which is behind his house that he just built. the guys at the town laughed at him, and said he should sell his house and move back into the city.

A guy up here bought the land next to a garbage dump and then complained about the smell. I guess the day he looked at the land the wind was blowing the other way.
![]() Same guy complained about a metal recycler shredding cars (noise). The plant had been there for 20 years before he bought.

To play devils advocate here, my parents have lived in the same house for 40+ years. A new house was built nearby and the people that moved in have two large dogs. The neighbors put the dogs out early in the morning when they leave for work and wake the neighborhood. When confronted the neighbors didn't care because they never heard the dogs bark. After a couple fines they have had to put the dogs inside all day.
In this case above, I couldn't tell you who was there first but I would think a bark collar on the dogs would eliminate the nuisance barking while allowing the dogs to bark to protect the livestock. If those people moved in next to me I would call every the police every day the dogs woke me up early. Disclaimer: We have a yellow lab and a beagle.

The judge was wrong, the statute makes no mention of how much money you make from your farm use of your land. If they had as many head of sheep there as is reported in the article, it would certainly qualify.
Who was there first does not matter. I bet the complainers were some a-holes that moved there from California. https://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/30.936

I notice that the plaintiffs were awarded monetary damages as well...$238k.
I've had $hitty neighbors that I would have liked to be surgically corrected as well (and some money for my troubles). I spoke with them and tried to correct their $hitty ways, but eventually gave up and decided that the whole neighborhood was turning $hitty, so I sold the house to someone who wanted badly to live in that $hitty place and moved.

Just a few things come to mind as I read this...
Six dogs (the number fluctuated through the years) to guard sheep on a farm that totals 3.4 acres? We have friends who use great pyrenees to guard sheep. Sheep on open range with grizzly, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote and wolves as predators. Flocking sheep breeds - 1 dog to 150 or so sheep/150 acres. Non-flocking sheep breeds (scatter when you put them out to pasture) - usually 2 to 150 sheep/150 acres. Virtually zero predatory activity. But these people need 6 for 3.4 acres? Come on... We have a problem here and it isn't the dogs, it is the owners. Unfortunately, it is the dogs that will pay the price. angela

My wife and I just RECENTLY moved into THIS area from the OTHER side of the planet: This place which OUR REALTOR (tm) told us was very nice AND VERY COUNTRY. A place of freedom. Where a man could park next to the street for more than an hour without being towed and could piss off the back porch any time of the day without retribution. Or just shoot buck 24/7. And my wifeypoo would so very much respect me more if I brought home a single tomato(e) vegetable food item from the abandoned pot on the the deck. And she might even give me nookie. I like country. And then suddenly there is a noisy FARM. And it is suddenly next door and suddenly springs up to make that nasty farm noise and stink typical of a farm. OMG! where the fk did that FARM come from? Help us! Give us half a million dollars for our mental anguish. Never mind the homeless vets. Fk them. Give me the money." Last edited by john70t; 08-31-2017 at 07:13 PM.. |

I don't like that they would surgically alter the dogs.. that's not fair to the animals. However people that leave them out all day and make o attempt to control them? They are the problem.

You city people are funny. I live in the country and every night we hear coyotes, often they are in our yard. Should we sue environment Canada to get them surgically muted?

That judge needs to be surgically altered, both physically and financially. Appeal Appeal!
