What to do with this space???

I know what the answer is-
but I'm curious as to the Pelican collective's thoughts.

Previously was occupied by a "Nutmeg Brown Metallic" 1985 Carrera.

Fill it with a Cayman S?

NutmegCarrera 08-19-2017 06:11 AM

Totally love that idea!
But...
Still have kids that like to be in a back seat.

Seahawk 08-19-2017 06:41 AM

Jeep.

I am putting the 560SL up for sale and getting a used Jeep.

I love convertibles.

NutmegCarrera 08-19-2017 06:56 AM

Hmmmm.

Nice idea also.

Nice garage, btw, well organized. You clearly are an engineer of some kind. :D

Onewhippedpuppy got me started on Jeeps. I love the 560 but need a DD when I am home.

BK911 08-19-2017 08:11 AM

Jeep is a good idea.
I picked this one up for family cruises around the lake.

fanaudical 08-19-2017 09:36 AM

Well, since you need the back seat and it has to fit through that garage door:

Panamera (am guessing you're looking for a 911 replacement)
Tesla Model 3 (or something more exciting but not that awful SUV thing)
Audi A4/A6 Avant

The only difference is, the car won't collect dust.

MRM 08-19-2017 10:25 AM

Two very good options Spring to mind immediately. 1) A 2012 or later Mercedes E550. This is the first year of the huge V8 turbo and reportedly does 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds but toddles around town like a kitten. 2) 2014 or later BMW 550. This was a mid-cycle refresh and the 550 got about 40 more ponies that really woke up the engine. I don't know which is faster but both are quite comfortable and are surprisingly competent even on drivers ed days. Both have a reputation for reliability. Yes, both are reliable. The Mercedes is particularly good. You can fit six footers in the back seats. It theyir knees hit if you move the driver's seat too far back. The Mercedes has a bit more room than the BMW.

Still have kids? Live in WI? Hmmm, I suggest a small boat trailer and multiple canoes or sailing dinghies.

kach22i 08-19-2017 07:04 PM

There is a H1 American General Humvee/Hummer at the local car dealership.

Think it is too big for your space though. :o

They parked it right on the corner to draw the road flies in. :D

Heel n Toe 08-20-2017 02:21 AM

Ping Pong table.

RedBaron 08-20-2017 04:01 AM

The sign says "Porsche parking only" sooooo ... 996TT?

ckelly78z 08-20-2017 05:39 AM

Other options are Bronco convertible, Mustang convertible BMW 3 series convertible.

pavulon 08-20-2017 05:50 AM

Cayenne turbo.

wildthing 08-20-2017 06:24 AM

What's wrong with another 911?

Early Broncos are getting crazy in price, but I don't know the ceiling.

Someone in the forum had one, said he limited his weekend road trips with his because of the poor gas mileage.

If you double or triple a $100 gasoline tab, that's $200-$300 a pop.

I'd love to drive one year around with a fiberglass tub/fenders/hood, they rust like crazy just like any other vintage ride.

onewhippedpuppy 08-20-2017 07:10 AM

E63 AMG wagon.:)

NutmegCarrera 08-20-2017 07:46 AM

...and that's why I love coming here. Great discussions.
All good ideas, and I like them.

Seahawk - yes, an engineer. I am working on cleaning the space up - as I have one less thing to work around right now.

Baron - yup. You're pretttyyyy close. Not quite, but definitely pretty warm.

Wildthing - yes, it would be sacrilege to post here with a teaser and go in some oddball direction.

Now - regarding the other suggestions made here:
the retro 4X4 thing is a good idea. but... this is WI. Finding a decent jeepster, IH Scout, Bronco or similar are basically impossible. We use so much salt that any of those in the midwest need to be imported from somewhere dry.

I'm really pretty intent on something with a rear engine. I've tried a "fun" car as a DD, and didn't work out. I like to separate my transportation from fun.

Regarding the Polestar and MB and various other options - I've been contemplating something like that, but really like the purity of a dedicated fun car.

For the DD - a 2011 subaru outback covers the utilitarian aspect of my needs. Racked out for the bicycles, works in winter, can park it and not worry about it, and it's super reliable.

So.....
I found a beautiful 2003 C4S that I am awaiting a delivery appointment. Bad week to make a car purchase decision as all the haulers are sitting, twiddling their thumbs at Monterrey.
Hoping that I get my grubby mitts on it within a couple weeks.

My daughter really wants to be dropped off on her first day of school in the new ride.

Will post (my own) pics when she arrives.

How does that sit with the Pelican collective?

Happy Sunday.

Jim Richards 08-20-2017 09:54 AM

Enjoy it!

MRM 08-20-2017 01:17 PM

Where are you shipping it from?

NutmegCarrera 08-20-2017 02:39 PM

LA to Wisconsin
Know a good shipper?

onewhippedpuppy 08-20-2017 05:30 PM

996 C4S, nicely done!

Baz 08-20-2017 06:15 PM

There's really only one choice.....and they do have back seats!

Put a sofa bed, hot plate, portable toilet, shower, and rent it out.

NutmegCarrera 08-23-2017 09:08 AM

Update
The wait is KILLING me!
Transport company is saying another 7-10 days before pickup.
I'm gonna be bored with this thing before I ever get it!!!!!

Somebody help me to be patient......

Cayman GT4...better.

Seriously...are the ceilings high enough for a 4 post lift?

NutmegCarrera 08-23-2017 09:55 AM

Driving it back would be fun!
I'm just too conservative.
and out of town.
And don't have the time to do it properly.
Would be a kick-a$$ way to spend three days with one of my kids.
But... I would have to pick, and don't want to disappoint either of them.
No - neither is old enough to drive - which makes it that much more impractical.

I know the point is to drive it -
...but the car has super low miles. I'd kind of like to enjoy putting them on at a normal pace.

I am going out of my mind.
Hoping to update before Labor Day - but that is not looking likely.

Thanks for the encouragement everybody!

Unfortunately no, but if you were shipping from the east coast I would have liked to share a shipment with you.

NutmegCarrera 08-23-2017 10:35 AM

The Porsche gods are smiling on me.
Looks like pickup might be tomorrow.
Waiting to confirm.
Yay!
