Back in the mid 80's we got picked up at the end of a day of flying the drill in northern Quebec, we noticed fuel leaking outta the bottom of the chopper, a solid fuel line had cracked. The pilot shut it down and we called for another chopper to pick us up, we flew back in with the part and an engineer to replace it a couple of days later and a bear had got at the chopper, Bell 206, both doors on 1 side and the cargo compartment door were ripped off and there were 8-10 claw holes in the skin of the machine where the bear had stood up, the holes were in the top of the chopper, above the doors. The cargo door was toast, there was some hinge damage on one of the main doors if I remember correctly, the back seat was ripped out and destroyed and the foam from the seat was gone, presumably eaten. It happens in real life not just in Hollywood.

LIVE BEAR cam - Alaska....wow!

A lady I used to mountain bike with just got killed by a grizzly in Montana last weekend. Ripped from inside her tent. Very sad. https://krcrtv.com/news/local/grizzly-bear-shot-and-killed-in-montana-after-deadly-attack-on-a-chico-woman

I'm not sure how I completely missed this thread the first several times around.

When I worked in Sequoia and Kings Canyon Natl. Parks, I came into contact with bears many times. We had to trap bears that came iinto the campgrounds and became too familiar with that environment. In the back country, I discovered the best way to scare bears was to imitate the sound of a rattle sneke (as best you could).

Most people do not understand bears at all. In general....they do not want to have anything to do with humans. Most are easily scared off using a variety of methods.

I've never heard of this technique, Marv....good stuff!

Is that a quote from Timothy Treadwell?

They’re cute til they’re not.

Past few weeks a woman jogger we sort of know was drug off and mauled down by the river. She had to be medivaced to anchorage. And a kid on an atv was chased by a brown bear on gas well trail just behind us.

So I’m packing again.
