Shout Out to Wildthing, Cashflyer and S Carlton: My New 996
I started this thread in Nov 2013:
The Affordable 996 Thread Over the last few yeasts I've been looking, sometimes actively, sometimes passively. A few months ago I changed jobs, which left me in a much better position to buy a car. I was close to buying Cashflyers 996. He was super-honest and showed me all the flaws with his car. Ultimately he talked me out of buying it by convincing me to buy something a little nicer. ![]() Wildthing test drove a very nice 996 C4 for me in California, his help was much appreciated. I had a verbal agreement to buy that car conditional on a PPI the following week. Unfortunately the seller received a cash offer over the weekend and I missed out on the car. ![]() Steve Carlton ran a few 'reports' for me, one of which was the car I bought this past weekend. Thank-you Steve. To everyone here who has helped: Thanks guys, you're the sort of people that make this a great place. ![]() I don't want to upstage these guys with car and price details...but I now own a very clean 996 that was dirt cheap. I will post the remainder of the story tomorrow.

Pelican Parts Forums are the best on the internet. People like these make it so. Thanks for sharing, and thanks to all those who helped.

Congratulations on the car, let's see some pics. Remainder of the story we already know, "really enjoying the car and hoping to do some mods..."

Picked this up for $12,000 US.
1999 C2 sunroof coupe with 100,000 miles. Blue with grey leather, not many options, but everything works and it sounds great. Super clean, no rust. This car has never seen salt/snow. Even came with a real Porsche car-cover. Likes: - exhaust sound - excellent (by my low standards) interior, needs a bit of cleaning on the e-brake and steering wheel - pulls like crazy - seats are narrow and fit me nicely - tight, you would never guess the mileage - rims are excellent - occasionally has a high pitched whine related to engine rpm Don't like: - road noise on the highway, I think it's worn out rubber - seat position, I need to get used to it - one vent is broken and rattles a bit, they ain't cheap - a few of the normal 996 interior scuffs (mainly the trunk/hood release pulls) I need to solve the road noise, and I need to decide on the IMS (it's a '99 so I am guessing it is dual row?). I will drive it as is for a few months and maybe pull the trans in the spring. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not in my nature...but when all is said and done I will have spent more money...tires, IMS, etc.
I have a rainy day fund going.

When I bought my '03 it was wearing brand new PS2 tires. Even though I stayed on top of rotations they got annoyingly noisy with 10k miles on them. If you decide to go with IMS I would consider doing all the coolant hoses and AOS. Figure with age and mileage the suspension is getting tired if not already done. Personally I would not fret with the IMS but the other wear items are worth looking into. Interior rattles drive me insane so I would find a way to silence that vent

Congrats. I just finished some weekend trips in my C4S, 1,500 miles in a few days driving in 100 degree temps and I'm close to 100k in mileage. Runs (knock on wood) amazing. My wife loves it and says, you won't sell this one will you?

Check the date codes on the tires. Old tires are hell on these cars, and common because they tend to be toys.
