Looking for a modern "trail bike"....

Remember the old Honda Trail 90s/CT110s....looking for a modern replacement. Will be used by a hunter...low gearing is good, don't need higher road speeds.

A bit larger displacement would be nice....

I see Yamaha has a TW200 dual sport...any other options?

Regarding the TW200.....Those little wheels and wide tires don't work very well on single track trails........Lots of options in the 250cc range with normal size tires/wheels......Dual sports bring big money around here as you need to be 'street legal' to ride in many places now.

Most of the Japanese 250 have not been updated in years (except Honda), so low miles on one 10 or 15 years old is often a good deal.....Good suspension costs more, but can be worth it depending on your usage...

Thanks Bob! I'm actually looking around for my uncle....his needs on a trail are low, and it'll never be street driven....only "deep woods", private land. He has a modern four wheeler, and two old Honda Trail 90s (one, I think is a parts bike), he's had one for decades that served his needs well, but has been stashed away for years...but now he's been bringing it back to usable state and has a carb leak. If he could go buy a brand new Trail 90, he would....but wouldn't mind slightly larger displacement....the TW200 is actually larger than he wants....250 would be out. He's not Internet savy...was told the T90 carb had a hole in the float, replacement, etc. not available, and that he could attempt to solder it (I asked him if JB Weld would suffice)....that's when he brought up just getting a new bike...IF he could find something. Maybe I should just try to find him a carb for the T90? Any suggestions or advice based on this....appreciate it!

Quick search shows new carbs are still available online....less than $20. I think maybe my search for a bike is over....

There are lots of gasoline resistant glues. Doesn't have to hold much pressure. Just keep the float from leaking. Fixed my old Troy Built rototiller with Kohler engine that I can't get parts for with that gorilla snot stuff.

So your saying a CRF450X might be a bit much?

A Honda CRF230 is probably what he needs or an older XR400.

I'm gonna get him a new carb for the T90, but he's most definately interested in one of these....the CRF230F version. He did some calling around and the dealers are low on inventory....2018s arriving soon.

He's had one of his Trail 90s since he was stationed in Alaska in the late 60s...

Thanks for the tips guys! Oh yeah...he's gonna gorilla glue the old carb until I get one....you guys rock !

My dad had a trail 90 when I was a kid. When my XR100 was broken I got (read had) to ride it. The hi/low range was neat but it was heavy.

We sold it to a friend of mine when we were about 13 or 14. I remember about 5 of us booking it down the abandoned train tracks and Aaron being at the back on the 90. When we stopped he was still vibrating. Another time we were riding on the beach. We all flew through the 'quick sand' and then watched as he went through and stopped dead.

I would love a Beta Xtrainer or a KTM Freeride. They both are a mix of enduro & trails.
