Well, last night was episode 3.
It's going to take this cast a season or two to coalesce. That said, I've liked all of the iterations of Top Gear. I even liked the last US cast. The only person I couldn't stand in any version of Top Gear was Chris Evans.

Damn, I missed 2 ;-) Agreed with all of the above, Evans was insufferable, the other shows were not great but still decent, better than watching Jeopardy !!! I like the new UK TG now, more than the Grand tour, more cars and less scripted stuff...

Poor Magnus...from hero to jerk in one short drive with a TV gal aboard...
Not a fan of the USA version after watching one episode.

What's the story Paul? I seem to recall he used to be active on this BBS, but I haven't seen him in years.

Huh. I found the thread. It apparently happened the same week I was moving back from Georgia. No wonder I missed it.

No, people asking simple questions about the builds that he never answered.

This series has some good short 'films' about cars or locations with cars but they are so short they get underdeveloped. The rest of the episode is just not worth watching. The segments are so short and clipped that it is not cohesive and a bit contrived. I too like the new TG with Chris Harris. Much better than the interim fix that was just horrible.

I've worked with Tom "Wookie" Ford, one of the hosts. I absolutely love that guy and saw he was doing something with Magnus' 964 on IG the other day.

I don't know that I'd put it that way... It's just that in this day and age, it's becoming very easy to overshoot your 15 min of fame. I thought his story and cars were cool initially. Then I read about it again on every forum I read. And again in every magazine I received. And every specialized site (petrolicious, BAT, Porsche, etc). Then rennsport, Momo wheels, model cars... At some point I don't know if the person loses control of the media, of if they overshoot their self publicity... It got tiring because the implication was he invented that look, and I know Rolly had a car like that many many moons before... I have no opinion on the person per se, I'm sure he's a nice dude... but I was tired of every porsche media outlet being all about Magnus... I'm falling into the same trap with Rod Emory. I have a lot of respect for what he builds. Back when I had 356s he was the man. But there's a post on how "Rod's grandpa invented hotrods" every goddamn day on petrolicious or facebook or another site. Seriously, when you see it daily it gets old... Someone should tell people when their publicity jumps the shark ;-)
I think it's a matter of "the right amount" of exposure... That and I need to surf less ;-) But you get my drift... Last edited by Deschodt; 08-14-2017 at 12:59 PM.. |

I have a question; can LE issue someone a ticket for something they did not see or know about until they saw it on YT? I seem to remember reading about that happening. Asking for a friend, of course.

Magnus used to show up at our annual gathering ("Treffen") in the early days of the R Gruppe. Hell, I got my first ride around Streets of Willow riding shotgun in the red, white, and blue car at one of our track days as a part of our Treffen. Really nice guy who was more than willing to help a guy out who had never seen that track before. He's done quite well for himself, starting with very little. I guess I don't understand why folks would begrudge him that.

Don't know the guy, don't think I've ever met him .
If i saw those videos back when I was 16 y.o. I would have been thinking, wow that guy is totally cool. I'm a long ways from 16 now. |
