I have been away from home for two weeks. Neighbor said a large tree limb came off my maple in the back yard and destroyed one of my nesting boxes for wild ducks. Fortunately the ducklings had all hatched and jumped out a few days before. They told me we have had close to 10 inches of rain so far. I will have to see if I can get home on Monday to survey the damage.

1 meter in 1 week?

Now imagine 1.8 Meters in 24 hours
Réunion. Cyclone called Denise.
They had 4.8 meters of rain in 4 days from that one.

And i thought everything is bigger in Texas??

Tornado just reported about 6 miles (10 km) west of here. Video in. We're still in a tornado warning.

So I woke at 3:30 a.m. today by water coming out of my ceiling and being flung around the room by the ceiling fan. After I gathered myself I had to figure out where it was coming from and what the next action would be. Ran upstairs to the room above ours and dry carpet and no water from the ceiling. Realized I had a f*cking plumbing problem, listened closely and heard a hissing noise and from behind the wall where the water heater is in a dead space behind an upstairs bedroom. The flex line from the water heater had a pinhole in it and it probably leaked for a couple hours before we woke. The water ran down a floor joist to the junction box above our bed. Had it been a joist over we would not have found it until the ceiling came in. A 10 min fix after a trip to Lowes, put a blower up in the attic space to dry it out and it seems to be working, thankfully it woke us before it got to any carpet. I hope to hell I can laugh at this in a few days and appreciate dodging a huge bullet. Fingers crossed and thinking positive thoughts. Stay safe to those in harms way.

Maintaining priorities, Texas style.

South Austin has had about 6.5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours, with more to come. Winds peaked at about 65mph an hour or so ago. We're about 180 miles from where Harvey made landfall.

The worst for Houston, and others near the coast is yet to come. Even though they have more rain to come, the water here also has to go somewhere.

The LCRA, GBRA, and BRA need to get to building more reservoirs, for a lot of different reasons.

Stay safe!

That's why I love Texas.

This is much worse than the Memorial Day or Tax Day floods for us in Bellaire, this time the water was lapping at the front door at 5:30 before we got a break, those floods it never got within 2-3 inches in depth of the door. That was at the end of those floods, this one is still going strong.

One of the major channels is having their field reporter do 100% of the news from an overpass, because they had to evacuate the building from water flowing in the front door

My neighbor says we have had 24 inches in the last two days. I will try to fly into Houston tomorrow night.

Water in my garage right now, coming in through via my neighbor's yards, the Bayou by my house has crested its banks and the only place for water to go is the streets. This is so nerve racking words can't explain.

Houston has been crippled.

Good luck boys! I remember Ron in Long Beach jacking up his 911 to nearly 5 ft with various things to keep it out of the water during Sandy. I hope you and yours stay safe and dry. Have a sister in College Station which is just north of all of this.

speeder 08-27-2017 08:47 AM

I hope all of you guys stay safe. The property damage looks catastrophic. :(

Prayers for all you Texans. It looks catastrophic.
May or may not be related, but it is eerily calm and quiet in SW Ohio. Not a cloud in the sky, no breeze, no sound - and I mean, none of the birds or cicadas that are usually chirping and buzzing away. It is very eerie. We usually get some weather disruptions after hurricanes in the west Gulf. I wonder if some effect from Harvey is making it so calm here and affecting the animals.
