Thankfully not. When I unlocked the car first this thing morning I didn't hear the SMG pump kick in. Started up the car and it refused to go into gear. When I got home I swapped in a new relay that I had stashed in the car - even had the correct torx driver in the car, too. That was it. I did have to drive the 356 to work today though...

No A/C! Luckily it wasn't very hot.

Spent a little time on it today; got another few mm in on the left side, and then I started working on the right side. My pilot hole on the right side is about 18mm deep at this point.

I have the full 25mm cleaned out on the left side; I ordered a bottoming tap so I can cut the threads all the way down.

Don't run a tap into the left side hole until you've made sure that you've removed all traces of the steel threads from the hole.

I have to say - very well done!

When bolts snap, that's usually when I ask myself: "WTF am I doing effing with this stupid old POS car - I could be watching the game and eating chicken wings like the other guys right now"...

Done! Finished cleaning up the threads and got the studs installed today; I tested it with my starter-rig bellhousing and everything held. I got the engine back in the car without incident this afternoon.

Thanks again for help; if you're ever in the area, the beer is on me.

I've been following this thread hoping for success. Nice and congrats

I'm a picture is a thousand words kind of guy.

Edit: I nominate this somehow to best practices solutions of broken bolts in the pelican archive if there have one.
This thread is very handy when this crap happens to us.

Yea but how do you feel just after fixing that "POS car" and she's running sweet?

Meanwhile the other guys are getting fatter every day.
