Route 66 (TV show)
About a year ago I bought a DVD box set of the Route 66 show, it was made about a half dozen years or so before I was born but I caught the series back in the early '90s on Nick at Nite. Haven't seen it since and finally got around to watching some of it.
What a terrific show and a throw back to a simpler era. One of the cool things is that it was shot on location all over the county so you can catch glimpses of places you might have lived in or still live or visited. The highways were seemingly empty (Pacific Coast Highway is deserted). Some landmarks are long gone but others are still around. While the Cold War may have been in full swing it still seems like wonderful time to live in this country. One interesting note: Whenever Tod and Buz got dressed to go out for the evening, no matter the occasion, they wore a coat and tie *every single time*. I've watched most of the first two seasons and there are a lot of yet to be discovered actors to be seen. Also, lots of nice shots of the C1 Corvette (different car used each season). I think the C2 makes its appearance in the third season.

Great show. I was 11 when the show first aired and wanted the car and to do exactly what the guys did on the show.
There was one episode filmed in Huntington Beach CA and there was nothing there but the pier and some small houses and shops. First place I ever surfed was in HB in about '64 or '65. We were just in HB on PCH day before yesterday and it took 45 minutes to drive through town. A million people and mega hotels, condo complexes, 45 foot motorhomes etc etc. OH how I would love to go back and visit the way it was.

G'day!

Self-respect and style were more of a priority back in the day.
Now comfort and self preservation rule the road. It is what it is, just glad I was around to see how cool we were as a society back then.....

Remember it well. Nice Vette. Most of 66 is now I 40. I've driven it from the Blue Ridge Mountains to SoCal. That was in '85. The country is a different place now. I think CA license plates (or even current home state OR) would get me in trouble in some parts of the south now.

The Route 66 tour starts on Sept 26, goes 2 weeks, from Joeilet Ill. to Sanamika CL. Great tour, if you can make it.

Great show. I also enjoy watching 77 Sunset Strip (1958-1964).

Interestingly, much of the show was filmed everywhere except on Rte 66. There are many episodes from Oregon, Texas, Louisiana, Maine, Ohio, etc. Forty different states in all.
One of the early first season episodes showed my former employer, Petroleum Helicopters, flying oil workers to an offshore oil rig off Louisiana in an old Sikorsky.

My neighbor was a 16 year old parking attendant at Dino's where 77 S.S. was filmed. He has lots of great stories from back then.

Wow... I remember watching it, but didn't remember it went long enough to get into the C2 era.
And you're right about the long list of actors who guest-starred... Lee Marvin... Tuesday Weld... Buster Keaton! Route 66 (TV Series 1960–1964) - Photo Gallery - IMDb

Many route 66 episodes on you tube. "between hello and goodbye" with Susan Oliver was one of the good ones.
