can we (all friendly-like) discuss Hipsters? and a butcher shop.
i dont get it. on the way in..some man was coming out, mumbling about hipsters..
i just went to a butcher shop. it is a local, small operation. spot-less, well decorated (with vintage knives, and vintage meat posters)..all the workers had waxed mustaches..and i would guess there was a man-bun somewhere in the room. even the way they stacked the meat was artistic. as a home-cook..i thought the place was badass! the prices were super competitive. way lower than WholeFoods. on the wall was a sign showing the farm that the animals came from for the week. i found hanger steaks..which i never see. i bought two. and a half pound of the best damn bacon i have ever eaten. they make it themselves. they even had local rabbit. just what exactly is a hipster? isnt it just a way of dressing? a style? like GOTH? growing up in El Paso..i saw more people dressed like cowboys..boots, western shirts, the belt buckles etc. they work nowhere near a ranch or farm. is there a style called cowboy? that was never a thing right? why is "hipster" even a word? i dont remember any one refered to as "western" growing up. damn..my face smells like bacon this morning. :) |
They are called dime store cowboys or goat ropers. At least that's what we called people that wear that western style when I was growing up.
And there were bars they could go to and do line dancing. And even a dance hall for square dancing. My nephew has two boys that actually worked on a ranch in HS. They are both out of HS and college and have regular jobs one continues to wear the western attire and drive a pickup truck, the other not. Another nephew has a boy that all thru HS and College, and even now works on a dude ranch. He does the western wear thing legitimately. |
They liked it before it was cool and mainstream.
"It" is variable but if the word "artisanal" is a dead giveaway that hipsters are involved in "it." |
Bring some of them bacon, come down to my house and cook me a meal. I will show you wha ta hipster is. I live right in the middle of hipesterville. I can't say I like them or dislike them. For the most part, they are just guys who's trendy (so they like to wear their girlfriend's tight jeans out in public). Oh, they are also all skinny, never fat. Like we used to say about the gay guys, they are all good looking, slim and fit.
Whatever the hottest trend is in town, you will find them. What I can't find is female hipsters? What do they look like? The men, you can spot them 10 mile away, but female hipsters? |
cowboy thing is funny
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8kAU3B9Pi_U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I dont get the hipster thing either but I'm pretty much out of the loop. Just like so many things, strive for individuality by mimicking a group you like. Could be worse, funnel haircuts, old clothes and 'artisanal' meat aint so bad. |

man bun....friggin gay as the day is long.
naming the farm the meat came from seems to be a trend in the 'organic' movement. the implication being you, the customer, have good taste and are 'in the know' when it comes to the best quality food products. All just marketing to make the customer feel special. And it works well. |
They're all good-looking? You haven't seen Ugly Hipster Girlfriend and Ugly Hipster Boyfriend! All body types wear skinny jeans but not all of them look good in them, alas.

I don't understand skinny jeans on men. Where do their testicles go?
|
duh they don't have them! clue 1 is the man bun, clue 2 is the skinny jeans!

to my great surprise I figured I might be one of them a few months back. I found it ironic...
however i have lots of trouble staying skinny and no man bun or skinny jeans...i supposed I'm just borderline, not fully hip. |

But, the steak is good the bacon is good, and their passion for doing the "real butcher" thing is great. I'd shop there instead of the supermarket meat department.

Generally hipsters are identifiable as going way overboard on whatever the fashion trend is hot today; earrings on guys? Too mainstream - let's put a set of Fuchs in our ears. In addition to overdoing what's current, they try to get ahead of the heard in fashion tidbits that normal people laugh at, such as the man-buns and Snidely Whiplash waxed mustaches.

When I was in Boston I went into a Swiss Army Knife store that was so hipster that they didnt carry extra springs for the scissors or replacement tweexers or toothpicks. The fake outdoorsman was aghast at the thought of the tool actually being used.
