I know the Honda is super efficient, technically advanced and all that, but, It just doesn't look right. For me nothing like the original Lear designs with the distinctive windshield, wing tanks and the engines tucked up next to the fuselage a' la A10.

The HondaJet has the engines mounted atop the wings and above the main gear. This allows for much more interior room and less noise, while cutting back on the amount of material needed to support the engines. I think they have delivered more than a dozen already this year. FYI, it is manufactured in Greensboro, NC.

Disclaimer: I am a 25+ year Honda associate working for the 'glamor' division (lawn mowers, generators, garden tillers)

I've been fascinated by the Honda Jet, have watched the videos about the Lear Jet, and all of the other small jets. I'm most intrigued from the standpoint of being a passenger, so my questions are can I sleep in it? Can I get hot food and cold drinks from a galley? Can I take a dump in the toilet? No galley, no want.

The engine placement isn't that different from other jets. It's the pylons coming from the wing vs fuselage that is the main difference.

One can say about the Learjets pictured above that the engines are also atop the wings and above the main gear.

Both have turbofan engines placed along side the rear fuselage.

There is a full lav with closing door, even a cute little skylight portal in the roof, pretty cool actually. The galley is very limited due to space....whatever hot or cold you have was hot or cold coming on board, there is no oven or fridge, just cool drawers.
It is not a particularly technologically advanced aircraft, really a pretty run of the mill light jet. They are the first manufacturer to build their own jet engine though, in conjunction with GE, but it is Honda engine powered. The pylon arrangement is unique, and assists in the quiet cabin as the vibrations are isolated from the fuselage.
The thing I noticed most touring through it is a very Honda like feel. The side ledges, sill plates etc. are blown abs plastic like a car, the seats have kind of a car like quality. The interior does not match up to what I am used to a private jet being like.

I maybe wrong here but I thought it was the first private jet to have a carbon fibre fuselage, that seems pretty technologically advanced to me

I saw a presentation from the Honda design engineers around about 10 yrs ago and they seemed very proud of the fact it designed in and being built from carbon fibre.

Nope, the Hawker 4000 was a carbon fiber aircraft. I am not saying it is old school, it is all the latest technology, but nothing ground breaking at all.
And latest tech in aviation is about 15 years back from latest tech for everything else, aviation lags well behind due to certification requirements.
The Honda takes advantage of lots of the "new" available manufacturing tech, but is nothing that has not been seen before.

This Honda jet is pretty tiny. I am sure there is some kind of a washroom in that aircraft.
Peeing in a bottle or whatever would seem primitive (in addition to other bodily functions). Making a biz jet without a toilet makes no sense.

I would think all your questions would be answered in the affirmative or else why bother? Likely limited to about four passengers?

How about price comparison? 4.9 mil for the Honda...the article made it sound very competitive.

The New Jet Age
The New Jet Age | Upscale Living Magazine

Quote:
A new jet age is dawning with the introduction of a new breed of business aircraft.* Very light jets (VLJ) weighing less than 10,000 pounds have been approved for single-pilot operation. They have been dubbed the “SUVs of the sky.” The stylish VLJ interior is the size of most SUVs. These jets accommodate four to six passengers in leather seats, providing ample legroom. Instead of flying into major airports, VLJs avoid crowded check-in hassles by landing at underused airports.

VLJs are priced at a fraction of the corporate jets now on the market.* Their cost varies from $1 to $3 million. VLJs are perfect for business executives requiring flexible travel schedules, making day trips of less then 1,000 miles, or visiting out-of-town relatives. General aviation pilots, charter services, and air taxis are also potential customers of the dozen companies manufacturing the single and twin-engine jets.* Some airline consultants estimate that between 2,500 and 4,500 VLJs will be flying by 2016.
I do not know the date of the article above.

I think carbon fiber was first used in a serious way on an aircraft when Beech built the Starship, starting in the mid-1980s. It was not a jet, but a turboprop, and a pretty comfortable plane to fly in. It's about 100 knots down on speed compared to the Honda, but it's bigger inside and has a better range. I have a friend that still flies one, it's not a bad way to get from point A to point B.

^^You're friend wouldn't happen to frequent Harbor Springs, Michigan in his Starship would he? Apologies if I've asked that of you before because typing that sentence seemed oddly familiar.

Not that I'm aware of. He has a partner that also use the plane but I've never heard that destination mentioned. Last I checked, there were five Starships still flying, so it's probably one of the other four.
