Almost finished Carrara Marble shell
This is very close to done, I cast the base in bronze and applied the patina to it Tuesday. It looks dark in the pictures but it has a faint tinge of green in real life. The finish is rough, I tried to make it look that way, maybe like old wood or seaweed kinda thing. Not a polished bracket. My worry is that it might spread because I didn't hook the bottom of the feet but the piece weighs maybe 150 and sits straight down so maybe no worries. I have just a little more sanding to do on the outside and a bit on the inside, maybe more grinding at the back of the opening. It's about 22" across and 26 tall.
Well, that's enough to pis a person off, I held the phone on the side when I took them, must have still been backwards. |

Wow, great work! Maybe you should get a booth at the Sawdust festival?

Can't do it, you have to prove you live in Laguna for that, I have things for sale in Laguna now and they take %50. Even if I lived in Laguna I think it would cost me more to be in the festival. Thank you for liking it.

Nice work Dean. I can't even imagine what it took to carve that.

Thanks, and as simple as that base looks that took a lot of time, forming it in wax, texturing it and pouring it in one piece. Then the clean up and patina. I even went over the patina again today, it has just a touch more green to it now, not much, it still won't show in a picture. The Texture needed some work too, I didn't notice it until I was looking at it this morning. I was asked what the base was supposed to be, wood? I said it's what ever someone wants to think it is, wood, seaweed, no matter. I just didn't want a polished bronze base. Things are never finished.
