The guy's a jerk. You are taking it way better than I would.

KNS 09-16-2017 06:20 PM

The guy panicked and sped off. Douche should have stayed and waited for you, I doubt having an early car has anything to do with it. If it is a snob thing he pulled over the first chance he got and examined the "damage" to his own door.

I hope he's reading this thread.

Holy crap, I'd have been pissed if that was my 996TT or VW, even more so on a 930.

I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I would definitely have my eyes open and looking for him to have a chat.

speedster911 09-16-2017 09:13 PM

Perhaps the car wasn't his - used car salesman / mechanic ? What he did to your car or his behavior afterwards is just not right. Anyone take photos and have Lic # to track down owner?

billybek 09-17-2017 06:16 AM

Same thing happened to my SC at a meeting/drive. I was probably 20 yards away and watched the guy in the passenger side of a 928 with giant doors slam my car and then pretend it didn't happen.
I let him know that I saw him do it...
Couldn't believe that someone would be that careless at a P Car event.

I agree that he was unwilling to accept the blame for the damage caused to your 930.

Funny a few years back I was parked with the spectators porsches at a "coupe de elegance". Had the top off and someone stole the plastic covers for the clothes hangers. Both sides. I think they cost me $12 from pelican so you know whoever did it wasn't to involved.

carambola 09-17-2017 09:27 AM

Figure there will be pictures posted at some point in time, just like all other cars and coffee events. With a total of 5 Porsches, you are sure to get coverage.

Is this the guy ?

Evans, Marv 09-17-2017 09:59 AM

Guy was banking on you not following through on this. The same sort of think happened to me in the '80s, except I was driving my VW camper I had just gotten repainted. Pulled into a parking lot at a mall. Before I could get out a lady pulled in to the spot to my right. When she opened her door, I heard a thunk on the side of my camper and felt it move. I got out & went around before the lady had gotten completely out of her car and called her on it. I showed her the chunk out of my paint and the paint from my camper on the edge of her door. She said, "So what?" I said I was calling the police. She told me they wouldn't come and walked into one of the stores, where she apparently worked. I called the police telling them what happened and that the lady said they wouldn't bother to come. Two cars showed up within five minutes. Once officer stayed, looked at the paint damage on my camper and the paint on her door & invited me into the store while he talked to her. She had to talk to him while taking time off of her work in front of other employees and customers, and her insurance paid for the damage. This dick hit your car and ran.

rusnak 09-17-2017 11:14 AM

I would have fired up the 930 and run his sorry ass down.

Anyhow, I have not driven my 930 the entire season yet. Got it out of its tomb this week, and my dad really cleaned it up nice.
The son and I headed off to cars and coffee this am. There only about 5 p cars there when we arrive, and I park next to the only other air cooled car there. I actually parked in the spot in front of him. I of course , look it over as soon as I get out of my car, because it is stunningly beautiful, then my son and I head off, I like get there early and watch all the super cars roll in, and park.
We get coffee, walk around a bit, and come back to my car. Meet the guy who owns the other vintage 911 and we talked about our cars for a little bit. I asked him some questions, but I dont think I was nosy or anything, just curious about what year/ motor, history etc. It was a really beautiful early 911.
I thought that I detected a note of snobbery, but nothing I am going to loose any sleep over. I am just a regular guy, and I do not dress for success, and also do not get bent about my social standing with others.
We see my buddy, and run over to bs with him for a minute, and when I look over, I watch the other p car swing its drivers door , right smack into my door. All 4 of us saw it, and I was like " are you fing kidding me?, is his door really smashed into mine right now, am I really seeing this ?"
His door stay had to be broken, because we were not even remotely close to one another. His door was almost at a full 90 deg angle to his car .
I head over to see what had just happened, and look to see if there is any damage, and he tore off out of there. I mean he fired up his car, put it in gear, and bolted out of the parking lot .
I did not see any damage in the parking lot, and was not really even thinking about the whole incident, untill, just now, I was outside washing my mustang, and walking back to the house, I see it. Son of a bisky, there is indeed a decent door ding there. I am not going to cry about it , the car is not perfect , but damnit. That is exactly why I dont take it out.
Did I break some unspoken p car ettitquete?
Is this the early S snobbery that Paul talked about ?
Id like to think this was a random accident, and he did not even realize that it happened, but the way he tore out of there has me thinking I just witnessed something else.
I have been into p cars for nearly 25 years now, and have never really witnessed the snobbery some talk about and assume. I dont do the social stuff and car shows either, I mostly know the track /autocross guys, and fix it upper crowd.
Should I say something when I see him again? P cars are the featured cars there next event, and I was going to get my sc out and go as well. He said he would be there .
Anxious to hear your thoughts , thanks

I really don't see what the problem is? You don't even own a REAL Porsche.

I'm pretty sure there's a special place in hell for door dingers.

My 930 is pretty ratty so I likely wouldn't bother fixing a ding since one these days I'll have to get it painted anyway, but if you do want to fix yours the dentless folks do amazing work.

Have not seen the snob act either. In fact, the opposite. Most owners seem to share if you are interested. Even high rollers with spiffy new ones.

My strap broke at a golf course in Houston. Bear Creek, I think the name was, between Eldridge and Highway 6. Wind. It reached wayyyy out there.

As for the pummel option, you are a better man than that, regardless of your car fixin' wardrobe. :D

GWN7 09-17-2017 12:56 PM

None of the other people there know who this guy is? He never talked to anyone else? Someone will have pictures of his car and his licence plate. Leaving the scene of a accident with failure to exchange particulars is a very bad charge up here (might be called something different in your neck of the woods).

The guys a jerk and should be held accountable for his actions.

You have 4 witnesses so it won't be "I never did that" when the police track him down.

+1 That was his last C&C.

rusnak 09-17-2017 12:59 PM

Beat the guy up? Certainly not, but I'd have chased him down and gotten his license number, and hopefully address and ID, and report to insurance.

If I hit your car with my 928 door, I would feel really bad for both of us. I hope it wasn't too bad for you.

Tabs, it is only a joke if other people laugh, and that was not funny, in case you were wondering. Maybe someday a big wind is going to blow all our troubles away, but right now getting a door dinged by some stuck up, pompous jackass is a real thing.
