Several years ago I was in a Home Depot and came across a Bubba Keg charcoal grille . It basically is a metal BGE or Kamado . Steel inner and outer shell with some kind of high heat coating with rock wool insulation in between . So it has excellent insulating value so retains heat on low/slow burns . It was on sale for 399.00 and was well worth the purchase price . It looks and performs as good today as it did when new . I think they sold out to someone else and are being made/sold under a different name now . I believe all BGE accessories fit it which is a plus .

Broil King Keg is the name that they are marketed under now.
I have cooked on one a few times. A friend of mine has one and brings it along to his cabin in BC during the summer. It would be very difficult to travel with my large BGE!
One of the differences I found between the Keg and the BGE was when finishing the cook and opening and closing the lid several times, the heat would get away on the Keg. The BGE has more mass so changes temperature more slowly.
Not that this makes them a bad BBQ, I just wasn't familiar enough with the way it operates and time and experience would no doubt change that.
If we do pick up a piece of vacation/retirement property I would most likely consider the Broil King Keg for it.
I do have their two layer grill for my BGE. Works great!
