Elissa And Her Ambulance Ride
This is kinda funny even though her life is pretty rough fighting CF
Today was her clinic day and she had just had her flu shot last week and was not feeling good since last Thursday. So at clinic today feeling terrible and running a 101 degree fever the CF clinic Dr. personally called for an ambulance to drive Elissa 108 feet...a 22 second ambulance ride to the ER which is the same hospital as the clinic. Elissa shot a video of the ambulance ride across the street. My wife was planning to wheel chair her across the street, The ambulance had wait 45 minutes for a critical care nurse to arrive to go in the ambulance. Elissa is resting comfortable in the ICU eating sushi as I left tonight at midnight. She is now active on the transplant list @ #3 and we just celebrated 1 year being listed.

Waiting 45 minutes for an ambulance ride that takes 22 seconds, for 108 feet?
I would have wheel chaired her right there and then. If it's urgent enough to call an ambulance, it's urgent enough not to wait for that ambulance if it's just that short a distance.

I think the ambulance ride was more than a trip across the street, what we forget is that this includes the care of a paramedic until she can be handed off to a nurse. If you took her to emerge yourself, she would not be under a medical worker's care until after she was triaged and admitted.
I know it sounds crazy.

I'm glad the transplant priority has been bumped up. My thoughts are with you guys.

I do hope it all works out...
That's a thousand dollars for the ambulance ride right there. (Maybe less. My wife was taken 10 miles and it was $1500...) |

You HAVE to keep your sense of humor or else you'd go mad, ESPECIALLY in the toughest of times. Gary, thoughts and prayers to you and your fam.

Had a similar experience a few years ago when my wife had an ectopic pregnancy. It was funny right up until I got a $900 bill for the sub-minute ride.

That is ridiculous. They should have air-lifted her.
