Honda Civic engine replacement
My DD is a 2008 Honda Civic. It's an appliance. I bought it due to Honda's reputation for reliability and low cost of operation. So far, it's only had a couple minor items go wrong over its 132K-mile lifespan.
But now I've been struck by the infamous cracked engine block problem (only on the 1.8 motors; not the 2.0 Si motor or the hybrid motor). My car started weeping coolant from the front side of the motor, from behind/underneath the header, and almost overheated. Apparently there are hairline fractures in the block, itself. It affects 8th generation Civics from 2006-2009. Here's the kicker: It's a known problem, now warrantied for 10 years from original date of purchase. I'm only 8 months from this deadline. So, regardless of miles, Honda with replace the block or motor...as long as the car is less than 10 years-old. I've since read (on the interwebs) of people a month out from their 10 years, and they got denied by their local dealership. I can't imagine how much this is gonna cost Honda. So if anyone's got a Civic from 2008 or 2009 ('cause the 2006s and 07s are no longer covered), keep an eye on the coolant level.

The 8th generation Civics are from 2006 to 2011. Apparently, the 2010 & 2011 model years are excluded from this issue.
There's also a warranty extension for the paint on these models due to the clear coat peeling away. "Honda says it will extend the warranty coverage on some of its 2006-2013 Honda Civic sedans and coupes, for problems with chalking and cracking. The paint warranty of some of the Civic's available paint colors will now be 7 years with no mileage limit. Honda says on affected vehicles, the paint on the roof and leading edge of the front fenders may crack or have a chalky or cloudy appearance. Additionally, the roof, trunk, upper portions of the quarter panel and upper portions of the doors could also display this same chalky or cloudy appearance."

You're right. For now, only the 2006-early 2009 Civics are covered under this engine block issue. I think initially it was just 2006-2007 models, and then the 08s and early 09s were also included. It was also just for 8 years post-purchase, but then got extended to 10 years. So there's (online) speculation that the '10 and '11 model years may also be included in the future. I suppose keep an eye on your coolant if you've got one of those later ones, as maybe Honda eventually will offer replace/reiumburse engine work for those.
