Wife Needs a new DD. She wants a Z06.

I Love that woman ! . I thought she would have wanted a nice sterile 5 series or merc , but no, she wants a vette . I can't say no, we are car people and life is short. She has worked hard for her money .
We will most likely keep her awd wagon to plow through the ugly Pa winters, and I always have several vehicles at our disposal for other transportation when needed.
I may just talk her into a regular vette, as this car WILL get used up like an appliance . She does 55 miles a day in and out of Downtown 5-6 days a week .
Just like the GT I just grabbed up, man, you can get a lot of corvette , for not a lot of money.

Manual or auto? Agreed they are ridiculous value used. Good job on picking your wife too.

On our first date, she had a little escort GT, and I had a Honda CRX si. I remember having to step up my game to keep up with her on the way home from dinner. I knew she was a keeper !
She drives a stick now, and I would guess that will be her first choice, but being that she will be in and outting downtown traffic daily, I would be fine with an auto as well .
I figure , other than tires, it will be similar to maintaining my pickup.

I suspect there will be a Corvette tax on some parts. It is a Chevy so overall parts are darn cheap.

My uncle has a new Z06. Nice car.
Make sure to factor in new tire cost for routine daily driver use. Pricey $$$ tread. He has an insurance policy on his b/c they are so expensive.

Corvette tax comes in the form of insurance premiums.

Z06 is a beast

When on an open road, I love a stick. When slogging along stop & go on a city arterial, I wish I could change the stick into an automatic. So, tough choice there...

Ahh, good thinking. had not thought about that . I was parts shopping already, and I'm not skeered. I will have to check and see how much to add it to my policy . We both have clean records. Cant be a whole lot worse than the M3, and Boxster though .....

witch z06? a new c7? I thought vettes were pretty cheap to insure since they are owned by older ahem responsible drivers?

To me corvettes are the perfect car to buy used since they are common, depreciate pretty nicely, and are often well taken care of

I saw an 09 C6Z with 30 k miles and and the z07 package for low 40s the other day. That is amazing bang for buck. You can also get a c6 ZR1 for 50k. I like the c7 looks but it seems like it has some teething problems and used c6s seem to be an amazing value

With all that torque and that commute, an autobox is a non brainer.

That is about where we are playing Sammy. That is a lot of car for the $ ( no yellow or red though ) .
Saw a dark green non metallic one a few weeks back, and it was stunning !
I would have no problem going with higher miles, and some cosmetic flaws for less $ also. Like I said, this will get used as a car, not a toy (except for the weekends when I get it )

near 20k should get you a pretty dam nice c5z. A z51 regular c6 is pretty much as fast and a bit nicer for the same or less however.

No automatic Z06's fwiw. There were fixed roof Non-Z06's for about a yea are early in the C5 production run that might have been available with an automatic. They are frequently referred to as FRC's in that crowd.

C7Zs are available in auto I believe and I don't think C5 FRC were availible in auto

I think the swoopy c5 body shape has aged well in hatchback, but the notchback Z and FRC look much less apealing to me

I think starting this year there are not going to be 3 pedal Corvettes, end of an era.

How tall is she? Regardless, see if you can find one of that vintage on a dealer lot somewhere they'd let her have it overnight or at least several hours so she can really get the feel for driving it and all that entails... driving position, rear/side visibility, backing into a parking spot day and night, etc. It's not as insane as a Countach or some other difficult cars in those regards, but it may present her with some challenges she may appreciate experiencing before a final decision is made.
