Piano Wheels

We inherited my wife's grandma'a piano recently. Our house has hand carved oak floors and tile.

The wheels are solid metal and will damage our floors. I need to be able to move it for cleaning etc.

I bought some low profile rubber casters but these will have it off the floor about 2".

Can I get rubber wheels for the existing castors?

Do you think it would work to wrap the existing steel wheels in black tape about 1/8" thick?

Lay down a thin sheet of plywood and roll it on that?
We also sometimes use those three wheel recessed dollies (like the ones they use in garages to roll cars around but much smaller that those)

Just don't move it unless you are painting. We have a big upright piano that hasn't moved in 10 years on our hardwood floors. We are able to get a thin brush underneath it to clean now and then.

I would do neither of the above. I have 3/4" Hickory...much harder than Oak, and either of those is likely to make an indentation based upon my experience. I would either lay down thin plywood, etc. if rolling. I kept remnants of the carpet I replaced. For heavy objects, I put those 5" hard plastic "slider thingys" under each wheel or leg and slide on the carpet....works for me.

Do you "really" need to move it for cleaning?

Pop in the rubber casters and get used to the height; or just don't move it.

Black tape will last about 10 seconds and not protect anything.

I put some heavy duty rubber casters on my baby grand and it's ok but they do flat spot pretty easy.

Thanks for the input. Yes we need to move it.

I think I will put the rubber casters under it and call it good.

These guys are a go-to source for casters.
Swivel casters, rigid casters, wheels for heavy duty applications | Cisco-Eagle Dallas, TX

We have an 1820, yes that 1820, Collard & Collard London-built parlor grand like that upon which Beethoven composed. If its casters need repair/replacing that is the first place I will try.

If it's not it super heavy you might try those round pads with the fluffy carpet on the bottom. Seems like the area where the casters are is kind of hidden?
