Did my ignition swithc go belly up

Weird one.

Beautiful day and had a morning Dentist appt.

Took the pcar for a spin.

Stopped at a couple of places to do errands.

leaving the doc for home I pull up to a light to make a left and notice my left turn indicator is stuck solid green. Huh? Dead bulb or relay.

Make the left and flip turn signal left and right, left solid, right blinks.

OK, no biggie.

A mile later look down and both left and right indicators are solid green. WTF???

Flip turn signal a bunch of times and no change.

Get home, park the car, turn off the ignition but there is zero mechanical resistance and the car is still running.

Pull the key cause I dunno I guess that's what one does when **** gets weird and it's fine. Turn it left right a bunch of times and there is no engagement of any sort that I can feel. Pull the key and look at it again, not sure why.

Put the car in gear and stalled her in place then disconnected the battery.

Think my switch fell apart.

As in physically the parts are separated.

It's been kinda flaky over the years so I guess time for a new switch?

You may have two problems. First thing you need to do is remove the electrical portion of the switch and look at it. Look for excessive heat damage where the wires attach and look at the slot where the mechanical portion of the switch engages the electrical side.

Like Jeff I would say the tab broke off that mates the electrical to the mechanical part of the switch.
Not sure how that would effect the turn signals though.

Same thing happened to me. Once you disconnect it, you can start and stop your car with a screwdriver
