do you brush your teeth after every meal?

i try..i honestly do.

but to be perfectly honest, i fall short. way short. i brush all the time day and night, but admittedly, i really ramp up the flossing 3-4 weeks before my visit. i rarely brush after a meal..unless it is eggy or fishy.

my dentist gave me kudos..apparently i kicked butt this session..hahahah.. maybe beer has fluoride?..dunno.

NOW? i feel i have a clean slate; a new datum. brought a tube of paste and a brand new toothbrush to work. the office full of Halloween candy really has me considering actually opening up the toothbrush package..just in case.

i am curious what happens at the next dentist session if i go all OCD on teeth brushing/flossing.

I would have to leave the brush in my mouth as I'm always shoving food in my craw!

Just went to my dentist Friday and got a good bill of teeth health- very lucky to have good teeth, only two cavities when I was young. I never floss, but brush two to three times a day.

Only wish my hair did as well as my teeth.

After meals or snacks, and after I'm finished drinking coffee.

Twice a day is enough. It takes the bacteria that causes cavities 12 hours to get going.

Cliff. You bring up the damnedest topics, but they're entertaining and I usually participate. I brush my teach twice - morning & night unless I eat something that makes me feel like I need an additional brushing. I only floss at night & use a moisturizing mouth wash morning & night. After eating & in between whenever I eat anything I use those plastic toothpicks (Dentec or Doctor's BrushPicks from Walmart) with the pick on one end & the feather thing on the other for teasing gunk out from between your teeth. Try 'em. They'll feed your OCD. I must have been doing something right all these years, since I have all my teeth. I'll admit to some fillings & caps (caused by an unethical dentist needlessly doing fillings when it wasn't needed as a kid).

No I was raised on Eastern Oregon mountain, well water. Zero cavities in my 47 years of life. For the past 25 years I've lain in bed each night reading scifi. As well as eating gummy bears, M&M's, and Hot Tomales...every night. Every night. I weight 135 in wet clothes. For twenty years active duty I had to have a cleaning every year, it was always in and out. I brush my teeth every morning and before I go to bed. Or if I'm heading out in public. No flossing or picks or whatever. It's one of my superpower's. On a down side I'm starting to get really thin on top, typical male pattern baldness.-WW

ps. Dentists love it when you eat Oreo's before a visit.

Brushing immediately after eating or drinking acidic foods can erode enamel more quickly. Eg, drinking orange juice, soda even coffee can soften tooth enamel enough for it to be to be vulnerable to erosion by brushing.

No I'm not a dentist but was involved in the R&D of dental care products for years and this was the prevailing opinion of many experts that we worked with.

I brush twice a day and use mouthwash.

I take crispy apples to work and eat those after I eat other stuff. Chewing through the apples seems to clean the softer stuff out of my teeth, then I floss. I probably floss at least once a day and sometimes 5 or 6 times.

I used to brush my tongue too, but these days I use a tongue scraper on it.

Brushing after every meal is like washing your car when you know it's going to rain shortly.

BTW, you have some of the most entertaining off the wall threads here.

Lol...I'm a periodontist and I don't. I do have patients who need to though.

Honestly it depends on your disease susceptibility...

Have a history of tons of cavities and/or severe periodontitis? Then yes you probably should brush/floss/pick multiple times per day.

Have a history of very few cavities and generally stable gums? Then you can get away with a thorough brushing and between the teeth cleaning (floss, waterpik, go betweens, etc) 2x per day morning and evening with no problems.

Good analogy.... Here's another... Brushing but not flossing is like wiping your butt and skipping the crack.

I use an Braun Oral B electric brush in the morning, then every evening a floss. After the floss I use a regular brush. I feel the electric and manual both have pluses and minuses so one brush of each is covering all bases I HATE getting a filling so anything I can do to avoid it I will.

Morning and night with an electric toothbrush and floss a few times a week and have always gotten comments from the dentist on how good my teeth look, but I also had a put $5k worth of orthodontic work when I was younger....

We just got a waterpik, and that thing kicks ass. I have a few spots that are difficult to floss and the waterpik blasted them right clean.

If others are going to chime in with the toothbrush they use, Sonicare Elite here.

Receding gum lines exposing nerves and making your next visit painful, my guess
