Mustang Fan Club Anonymous

I’m at the stoplight in the 911, and some 20s kid pulls up next to me.

His eyes are agape and agog so I roll down my window.

“What year is that?”

“1986”

“Is it a stick?”

“Of course”

“Holy cow, jesus, that thing looks amazing....(blah blah)”

I flatly riposte, “I love your Mustang”

“Really???” <-- (This is the point of my post)

“Dude, what an insane value. Great move.”

“I know I only paid $10k. I got it b/c it’s a stick shift.”

“Well, I love it. Your car looks great, damn what a color...”

“Thanks!”

I think the kid appreciated getting a strong compliment
for his otherwise maligned car by the typical internet YouTube commenter who has never even driven a Mustang,
and instead spouts magazine racer nonsense like "Fixed rear axle" (not even a thing anymore) that has zero bearing on real life driving.

I looked it up. Kona Blue.
Beautiful.

That blue car is basically a picture of my next daily driver, after my 2004 Mustang GT wears out....no guilt !

Kona Blue is a great color! I think the Mustang is a great car for what it is intended to do, I have really enjoyed all of them that I have owned.

That looks a lot like Porsche's Midnight Blue.

I like my Iris Blue Metallic a LOT!

Mustangs

Not a thrill ride. (Well maybe a 350GTR, haven't driven one)

No status (They are everywhere.)

What they are is trouble free and well balanced drivers that do everything well and nothing in a spectacular manner.

At this stage of life, I'm content (tho not thrilled) with mine...even though it's not blue. ;) It's been a good car for all of the nearly 27,000 miles I've driven it.

I am not a Ford guy but I would not kick a late model Mustang out of the garage. I'd really like an early fastback.

I just ordered 4.10 gears, and sub frame connectors for my stock 04 GT convertible this morning.

Cheap fun for sure. I am always surprised, but get quite a few compliments on my plane jane grey 03 gt. I will replace it with a newer model in the next few years .

Got to drive a new gr350r and let me tell you that thing was scary fast. It was way above my expectations. Now the dude paid a lot of cash for it so it wasn't budget horsepower.

And now with more Perf. Package--Level 2!

I DD an "Impact Blue" 2013 V6. Very similar to the Kona Blue. I'm really satisfied with it, especially for the price.

Even with additional dealer markup, he paid thousand$ less than the "new 911T" being touted by Porsche?

You sure it was an R and not the standard 350GT? Not that it matters for street driving, both have the same engine and gearing.

The new fronts look so angry. I do like that color.

sleepy911 10-29-2017 06:02 PM

Yes it was an R. I custom covered the rear seat delete, headliner, visors, armrest, shift boot, and e brake boot in Alcantara to match the seats. He purchased it at an auction and paid way north of 100k for it. He said he out bid Matthew McConaughy for it. Haha

HardDrive 10-29-2017 06:22 PM

Love my 03 Mach 1. If you are coming from the P-car world, the suspension will scare the hell out of you.....but that's part of the fun :D

Auction fever, then. Now that they've been out for a spell, shopping around will find a dealer willing to sell for sticker. One guy on the Bullitt board, a favored customer of his Canadian dealer, paid sticker for his first year 911R. (edit) I meant to type 350GTR...sold in Canada.

With his Lincoln ads, you'd think McConaughy would have zero problems using Ford connections to get one.

Well I guess this is a good time for me to post up my Mustang purchase. I picked up a GT350 a few days ago. That voodoo motor is just ridiculous, the sounds it makes running it to its 8250 rpm red line is addictive and I'm completely blown away by the handling.

That is awesome!

My buddy has one and I drove it around last April, very nice.

Great color choice Michael!

(edit) I'd go to the garage to throw rocks at my '09 except it did a great job today of transporting my bride & I over rain soaked roads to our favorite pool hall.

Chino 11-02-2017 11:50 PM

I enjoy mine, it's over 50 yrs old.
