Tennis Elbow...WTF
Always figured it to be a wuss injury until I got it. Damn! S hit is painful. Anybody else ever get it?
|
Been battling it most of this year. That arm brace they sell helps some, but damn, you are right, very painful. I am mostly over it now, probably back to 80 %. There was a point this summer where I could barely use my left arm.
|
I have it very minor and very infrequently , so have never done anything about it .
Guys I’ve spoke to have sworn by the tennis sweat-band things you wear on your forearm . |
I suffered through it for years....I even had plasma rich platelets injected in my elbow.....It came back. Arnica Montana cream lathered on 4 times a day 6 months ago and no pain for 6 months.

Had it back a hundred years ago when I played USTA tennis...from intense backhand practice drills. Painful as hell. My masseur told me to stop hitting backhands for weeks and if not cured, then months, which I did. It went away. Good luck. |
Very painful. No tennis here either, but a repetitive strain injury. Felt my most useless when I couldn't even hold the drill in my right hand and make a hole for the dryer vent.
|
Not from tennis but have felt that pain and like OP was shocked at how intense it was.

Even squeezing a nail clipper. Had to learn how to use my left hand for some things. Frustrating and painful. |
I have both tennis elbow, and golfers elbow..tennis on my left arm, golfers on right..
And have never played either sport.. The pain is such that affects quality of life all around, from barely being able to lift a coffee cup.. to not being able to do much upper body work outs at the gym.. Get the shot... cortisone, then rehab.. I found the stretches and various exercises had no benefit prior to getting the shot.. And a few months after the shot, the golfers elbow returned... the tennis elbow arm still feels fine.. so I have an appointment to get another shot of cortisone next week. |
Have had it since Easter of this year from playing golf. 6 months later, I still have to be careful how I use my left arm. It sucks.
I have a compression wrap, but often make it worse when sleeping and not worn. It hurts like a sob in the morning. |
Do you take statins?
|
Very tough to open a twist off beer bottle.

Tennis elbow is a form of tendinitis. Rest and inflammation control is the cure. That band thing on the forearm is intended to very slightly relocate a particular tendon(s) altering the mechanics of the elbow.
Rhabdomyolisis, sometimes caused by statins, is a muscular condition. |
Physiotherapy...
A good exercise is to sit in a chair with arm rests (or you could use the edge of a table). Put your arm flat along the arm rest and curl your wrist like you would the throttle on a motor bike. Gradually add weight in your clenched fist. Start with about 1 pound (you can use a can of soup). Ice it. Kinesiology tape also works wonders. I went through this a year ago and got it sorted in 2-3 weeks. |
I had it on my right arm when I lived in Atlanta. I had wear a brace that put pressure on my forearm near my elbow. It went away when I moved back.
Best I can figure is that where I rested my arm during my commute caused the problem. I got aftermarket soft elbow pads, it didn't help. Trying to keep my arm from resting on something the whole drive got tiring quickly. Now that I don't really have a commute again, I don't have the problem anymore. |
I've had it and know a lot of people who have had the same thing. Almost always it is caused by poor sleeping position. I know people who were getting cortisone shots who were completely cured once they made a conscious effort to sleep in a different position. It takes a while to feel better, but it took time to get into the situation too. Do try physiotherapy, but also do try changing your sleep position.
