Follow up procedure for new job application
Ms Rocket applied for a job last August when it opened up at a state run medical university hospital. She had a one on one interview several weeks later with the director and then a peer interview with four folks two weeks ago. She mailed thank you notes to all she interviewed with.
The director did the first interview and met Ms Rocket in the foyer to take her to the peer interview a two weeks ago. She got along great with the director and the peer group. After the peer interview, the director said she would call her early the next week. No phone call. Ms Rocket emailed the director one week after the peer interview. No response. Should she email the director again? What's the procedure to follow up without being a pain? This is a state run medical university, so everything is probably very slow. It took her friend a month after his interview to hear back from them to get his job there. |

By now I'd probably call and, if you leave a vm, follow up with an email. Then leave it alone.
My current job, which is the best I've ever had, took forever to get the interview and offer. Initial interview via Skype was delayed and rescheduled for months, then a month of total radio silence. I had given up, but sent a last ditch email to the boss. Turns out he'd had a lot of stuff going on unexpectedly - death, short-notice far-flung travel, etc. When the interview day finally came, he just asked how much I needed and when I could start, didn't even ask for a resume. Took another two weeks to get the offer, but I was told to expect that call on that date.

Employers - even in a tight labor market rarely take the time or resources to follow up with applicants that were not selected. Your better half should move on .......

My daughter had an interview with a potential job possibility that her college CAD professor had set up. Everything went very well, and she thought that she would love the job, but never got a call back, or email. A months later, she finally emailed, and they told her the previous position had been filled, but they something else for her to consider, and that they tried to contact her previously, but had the wrong information......don't give up, or fail to contact them until you get an answer.

I'm a firm believer that persistence shows interest and employers like people who show a desire to be employed. I'm also a firm believer that no answer is not an answer. I'd keep trying until told I didn't get the job... and honestly, I'd pick up the phone and call the director rather than email.

Yep.. this.. ^^
My wife has been involved on the hiring board for a few positions at a major hospital and it took them on average 4-5 months to make final decisions on candidates for positions. These people are medical doctors/admins/etc. and they all have "normal" jobs that they have to do and can only meet to discuss when all of their schedules line up which is usually only 1-2 times a month. And the ironic part is, my wife just got a big promotion herself and all of the candidates were internal and she interviewed in May and was finally told she got the job in mid -October... and there were only three people who interviewed!

Good info guys.
She's persistent. She called today and left a vm. Said she would call again Monday to set up an appointment. Her motto is never give up. |

That said, when the employer doesn't call back it is usually a bad sign. In today's litigious world, no one wants to be cornered with "but why didn't you hire me?"
