This is is good day to remember those good and brave who stood up for us all, and good day to listen to Eric Bogle's "The band played Waltzing Matilda". Easily found on you tube, it's how I reflect today.

Make Bruins Great Again

It is interesting that 11/11/11 is Veterans Day. The vertical line of the date reminds me of this:
![]() Thank you to all who served. We need to say "thanks" every day. Especially to those who were in America's most unpopular war.

My Story
Mike Bresselaar
The last great war ended in 1945. My father was forced to grow up within the aftermath of the German occupation of Holland. His family did not always have the food they needed nor the comforts provided to us daily. My father served within his nations army as a young man. When he set forth on his own path of destiny he followed his dreams to the great nation of Canada. Thank you Dad for making such journey...thanks to your family members for fighting through the war. Thank you to the brave Men and Women who fought to make my fathers dream possible. I will never forget nor take your actions for granted. Nov 11th 2011

Reflecting once again on the sacrifices that our veterans have made reminded me of an earlier thread posted back in 2006 at the passing of a decorated veteran/hero. I thought I would share it with you again:
Spending one's life working for freedom.... is inspiring Giving one's life for freedom.... is brave and selfless Giving one's life for another man's freedom....defies description by mortal man.... Only God knows the right words...and they are unspoken.....divine Lots of fine men served. Some did not make it home...many returned to quietly continue to their serve their nation in other ways. All are heroes. Many were not properly recognized. Thank you for your service gentlemen. Men like these are hard to replace. Thank God that we are growing a fresh crop of heroes in the fields of Iraq. Although we sadly lose a few of this precious crop…who pay the ultimate price on the field of battle...their blood nourishes freedom…. and the harvest is immeasurable. May these men be remembered for their honor and strength in a world of weakness; for their compassion and morality in a world of vice and their sacrifice in a world of pomposity and self-importance. Rest in peace, brave soldiers; your battles are over and you have carried the day. Although, this day, we sanctify the hallowed ground at Arlington Let us not remember their sacrifice with a sad heart But rather, honor it by cherishing the fruits of their devotion As a free and proud people...citizens of a righteous republic May God bless all those who serve this grateful nation

My father somewhere in France, not sure of the date. He was a major in the Army Air Corps at the time. Would have been in his early 30's.
Thanks, Dad ![]() |

Make Bruins Great Again

It never hurts to say Thank You again.
Sadly, my generation cursed and spit on returning veterans because they fought in an unpopular war. Even the ones that physically survived still had wounds and many of them never healed. EVERY DAY should be a good day to thank someone who served their country.
