Sam Adams $200 beer
I have to admit I would like to taste it... but not enough to drop $200.

"The resulting beer clocks in at a staggering 28% ABV, and the taste is said to “be reminiscent of a rich vintage Port, old Cognac or fine Sherry with notes of dark fruit, subtle sweets and a deep rich malty smoothness,” according to the craft beer news site Brewbound."
From the description it sounds like it doesn't know if it's supposed to be grape or grain... Sooo, why not go ahead and drink a rich, vintage Port, old Cognac or fine Sherry instead? (And if you have that much money aren't you supposed to be wasting it on hookers and blow?)

Yeah, I'd taste it, but I'm not paying that much for it. Shoot, when I got to the Specs near my place, I scoff when I see beers that are $10-20 for a 12oz bottle or $25-50 for a 750ml bottle.

My wife bought me a bottle a few years ago. Very much like cognac. Poor a finger in a glass and sip slowly.

They've been making Utopias for a while now. I still have three or four bottles of their triple bock from the mid-1990s kicking around (pretty sure they stopped making those). I just need the right occasion to crack them open. Supposed to be like wine - better with age.

For that kind of money... I think I could get into commercial brewing.

$200 is not unreasonably for something aged that long. I would love the opportunity to buy a bottle.

Beer is the new wine, so many people will willingly spend $200 on that.

Yep! This would be a good retirement plan! 13000 bottles will go on sale x $200/bottle= $2,600,000
When I'm 70 I'm going to be rolling in it! I figured they had to be using some type of champagne yeast strain in combination with an ale yeast with a higher alcohol tolerance. I would think they would have to ferment in stages with the ale yeast finishing and then stepping up to the champagne yeast to finish. It would be something fun to play around with. Clearly the brew has a lot of grain to increase the fermentable sugars. Samuel Adams Just Released a $200 Beer That's Illegal in 15 States |

I bought a case of the triple bock in 95 I think $120 or so. it took about 7 years for it to really age well. the first five years it had a decided maple flavor that kind of relaxed after that. I had a bottle last for ten years and I would say it had peaked in the 7, 8, 9 year range.
I wish they would bring it back because it is a bit more sane to buy and lay down. the utopia is got an availability and price issue for me. next they had mullinium? I don't recall how many years they brewed that. I tasted that and felt that my, by now, 5 year old triple bock was better. with a good aging that stuff might be good but I haven't heard anybody that has done that but I would believe some is out there. the utopia is fantastic. I wonder how well it keeps after it is opened. the triple bock came in 8oz bottles so it was a pretty good size to open and drink or share. I sampled the utopia several times at the great American beer festival in Denver. sam adams would only pour it at certain times during a session and you could look over at their booth and tell when the pour was happening. I had a buddy of mine that basically just stood by the sam adams booth and waited till the were pouring and did not travel very far from there when they weren't.

my buddy bought 2 utopias during the last release at sams club. He shared one with his drinking "club" and sold the other for 2x what he paid for it, making the first free. Thats the thing that is crazy about some of these expensive bottles, there are people lining up to buy them. No thanks for me
I bought a bottle of the triple Bock when I was a freshman in college, because my dorm neighbor had a playboy that said it had the highest alcohol of any beer at the time. I think it was around $20. Seemed disgusting at the time but Id prob feel different about it now.

I love beer and I love cognac too. If that can keep the posers out of the XO congnac/armagnac cabinet in Total Wine then a heartfelt thank you to Sam Adams!
