I have a good friend with a "rough" Marcos race car, Volvo powered. There is another gent that sometimes shows at our vintage race events with a much more beautifully finished Marcos. Yes, they are plywood chassis. Some of the TVR models look similar. There is one on BAT right now that looks the business. I think some of them are gorgeous.

The engine and drive train are TR6 based, and a totally different animal than the GT6 bits. Parts availability is actually very good, and not overly spendy.

Edit: Hadn't seen those options before, but I likey.

The TVR club has a cross reference guide for members.

TVR Car Club of North America

Had a 2500M for a while. A 73.
Also had a TR6, as well as a bunch of other Brit stuff.
Parts availability for the 6 is very good, so drivetrain you'll be fine.

190hp is really stout.
How's driveability from cold and idle?

Follow up....I did not but the TVR...I just couldn't pop for 1960's era tech....been there...
However, it got me on a Brit buying jag and I did but a 2005 Lotus Elise.

What a unique and very Brit car...quirky in a good way. Fast and light much like my Porsche but very different too...it has less frills if you can believe that...basically a race car for the street.
It is only 42 in high so must really drive defensively...but the handling/speed/go cart feel is a hoot.

Drive like you are on a scoot. An Elise is like a Miata, practically invisible.

Put your finger on your upper front tooth and repeat after me:

RRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!:D

Be careful who you let lift it. Tying the front down to the lift is mandatory.

Reason #627 why I do all my own work...

TVR no race history Huh, check your facts; TVR's have been raced since the first iones were built back in the 1950's. The 2500M was really aimed at the US market, hence the puny detoxed detuned TR6 engine; 2500M was one of the lowest performers in the range(there was a Ford 4cylinder 1600M below it), Europe got the Ford V6 with 138BHP in the 3000M with the weight better distributed due to the V rather than straight 6 motor.
TVR didnt handle as well as the quite a bit more expensive and better looking Marcos cars, but they were certainly better than anything made in the USA.

Have not visited this thread in a month. Just put out feelers on the Applefest car show with my life long Franklin residence pal.

I could buy a case of 16 oz Genny Cream Ales at 18 years of age on route 321, leaving Franklin, just across the Allegheny River heading towards Seneca.

Well, at least they put a plastic cover over the front seat.....

Sorry, I should have taken note of the name. But one of the car mags at the newsagents right now has an article on TVR Grifilth cars.

Reiver 12-29-2017 08:18 PM

Follow thru...
The Lotus Elise is the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel...light, precise, and raw...no doodads. Redline at 8k rpm and a really nice 6 speed.

Honestly, it makes my euro lightened and fresh 911 SC feel like an SUV....and, that makes me sad in some ways.

Congrats on the automotive happiness.

petrolhead611 12-30-2017 05:32 AM

Hi, if you have bought a series 1, you risk having leak soft top roof seals but worse, is the potential failure of glued bodyshell joints/ corroded floor panels. The roof is no big deal, the other matters are serious, so hopefully they are not present on your car.

Reiver 12-30-2017 07:57 AM

2005 series 2......who would buy the series one when the 2 is so much better......

petrolhead611 12-30-2017 08:57 AM

Funnily enough, it is the series 1 that is the collectors item here.
