Anyone ever own a Brit TVR
The later 2500 model? If so what did you think of the car?

I had a 1973 2500M, OK car. No real race history with the company and it shows in their car handling and build. I had a Lotus Europa and it was a vastly better handling car.
The TVR was tougher than the Lotus, but not very powerful with the triumph 6 engine. The typical hard to get in and out of, poor luggage space for this type of car. Seating and ergonomics were good once in. Visibility was nice. Overall not a standout car, but not a bad car. rather ho hum. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1511191172.jpg |
Thanks....I have the op to pick up a nut/bolt resto with a race prepped 6/ 3 webers for pennies on the dollar...car is immaculate and no miles....we'll see.
They put a lot of money in the motor and it dyno'd at 154 RWHP with a very flat torque curve...I need a Brit car like a hole in the head but it is one hell of a deal. |

I was at a shop recently that was working on one. They'd built a 289 for it and put aluminum heads on it, put a roll bar in it too. Added an aluminum trannie too so took some weight out of it. Looked like it was going to be a fun car to drive. Shop owner said it was for a former race driver customer so I'm sure it'll be put to good use.
Sounds like you can't loose money on it if it's a really good deal now. |
I got the receipts today...15k spent on the motor rebuilt by a race shop for the street...3 webers, custom exhaust and lots of bits and pieces...190HP at the crank and a dyno reed out showing 158 RWHP with a really flat torque curve...the stock 6 is 106 HP. (so I understand the owners comments above)
The car could show at a concours and has about 500 miles on it since all of the work was done.... I am gonna bite I believe, looks like fun... |
Were these steel body or fiberglass?

I had a 2500M back in 1973, Same comments as ficke as far as performance is concerned. Has the gas tank been isolated from the passenger compartment? There is no frame protecting the gas tank that is located behind the rear axle. Mine was rear ended while parked and the gas tank was flattened. The foot wells were filled with gas! I was surprised that it didn't go up in flames. Also consider a roll bar. There is no structure above the bed frame.

No one would confuse a Morgan with a TVR or a Marcos. I have not pulled the trigger yet but probably will...I am more concerned with parts...I know the lump DT is GT6 based but the odds n ends sourced from whatever car company in England at the time is a pita....but, on the good side the only thing not replaced in the car was the window regulators...everything else is new. |
