iPhone Battery Replacement
Yes, I did it, not once but TWICE. My wife's old one would hold a charge for about 4 hours, used to be two days. So I got a replacement kit from Fry's and on the iFixit site they have fantastic step by step photos and instructions. I was able to manipulate those super small screws still but it was harder than when I was young! Then last Monday I had to take the wife to the ER because of a fall (she's ok) and my iPhone 6 Plus died in about 4 hours! Huh, it had been fine last week when doing range officer duty so I checked and Fry's did not have anything in stock. Called a local guy (sounded like a super geek) and he said $45 plus battery cost and it would take him 2 weeks to get a battery.
So I ordered two (in case) from Walmart on line and since they came from the L.A. area they came in three days. The bigger one was a bit tougher as there were more covers, more screws and 5 cables to disconnect. The sticky tape did not pull out so out came the tools and I had to pry the battery out, whew. The new one went in fine, the screws again are a hassle but you get a very sharp set of tweezers so you can hold the screw and then start it. All went back in reverse order just like they said. IT WORKS and so far I am still running the battery to less than 10% as suggested so run time is much better. So it is a job you guys can do your self. iFixit has great kits and their website is great. |

Beware of source and possible low quality batteries. If it gets too hot while charging or when in normal use...

batteries plus changed my screen after i dropped the phone and upgraded the battery. good value and seemingly good work

The iFixit kits are great.
Recommended for anyone when doing mobile device repairs for the first time. Tools are quality and instructions are great.

1 more reason I'll buy another Samsung Galaxy S5 soon before my old one dies. The S5 is one of the last models to have a removable battery. I shouldn't have to tear my phone apart to replace the thing that makes the phone work when not plugged in.

A small magnetic screwdriver works great. I need magnifying glasses to work with those microscopic screws.

I've done a few screens. The magnifier hood from Harbor Freight is a must-have.

Yes, yes and yes. I was worried about it melting down or catching fire but iFixit has a pretty good, actually very good reputation so I went with them.
