Let's not forget some choice quotes:
"Next time there's a war in Europe, the loser has to keep France. The last time the French asked for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag." --rumored from David Letterman "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." ---rumored from General George S. Patton "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion." --rumored from Norman Schwartzkopf "The French still need more proof that Michael Jackson has had plastic surgery." -Unknown |

If you find the French so objectionable, why do you value French support ?

Since the French haven't done enough, they are now trying to use the UN to keep any American or British involvement in the running of postwar Iraq to a minimum.
What is so objectionable about this? Does the US have some sort of right (by conquest?) to govern the country afterwards?

Ten years from now, the children we see today will ask, "What WAS the United Nations?"
But then ten years from now, they won't know the term "Social Security," either.

The United Nations have, through indecision and infighting, cost themselves any credibility they might ever have had. For their own sake, they need to reform, rather than disband.
Me? I dislike the French, too. Especially after the whole act-of-war bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in New Zealand and the South Pacific Nuclear testing that they just "had to do". Why not test their nukes just outside of Paris? It's not like there's any major fault lines nearby... Coincidentally, the SE Coast of Australia and other Pacific Nations started getting earthquakes within a few weeks of their "essential testing"... ![]() Jacques Chirac is just a witless, gasbag.

![]() Q: What are they calling the Germans, French and Belgians, at the Pentagon? A: "The Axis of Weasels." Q. Why do we need France on our side against Saddam and Osama? A. So the French can show them how to surrender. Q: How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris? A: Nobody knows, it's never been tried. Q. Why don't they have fireworks at Euro Disney? A. Because every time they shoot them off, the French try to surrender. Q. Why did the French plant trees along the Champs Elysees? A. So the Germans could march in the shade. Q: How many gears does a French tank have? A: 4 reverse and 1 forward, in case the enemy attacks from the rear. Q: How can you identify a French Infantryman? A: Sunburned armpits. Q. What the he** is wrong with all you americans and the rest of the world? Do you take pride in being such ignorant a**holes that don't give a ***** about the rest of the world (unless it's an oil-producing country..)?
It may be a surprise to some, but there is more to this world than the US (most americans wouldn't know though, since they've never been out of the country..). It is attitudes such as the one's expressed above in this thread that make people around the world hate the US - what is so hard about that to understand? Do you fail to see that you bring the hatred upon yourselves? I've said it before (and I'll say it again, for reference) - I used to live in the US and I know your country well (I have travelled to more states than most americans do in a lifetime..). I used to absolutely love the US, but the attitude that I see nowadays makes me sick.... There's of course nothing wrong about patriotism, I consider myself very patriotic, but there should be a line somewhere where you ask yourself if maybe you've gone too far... How about being humble once in a while? How about listening for a change (instead of just invading)? And how about giving people a break when they do not support your views (it's called freedom of choice, you know?), instead of reverting to name-calling (most of us stopped doing that when we left preschool...)? No wonder US-popularity around the world is at an all-time low... and this makes me sad more than anything else. If my country behaved like this, I'd be embarrassed.... Disclaimer - the above does not - of cource! - apply to all americans! But a share of the population big enough to make me worry... No doubt, these opinions will get me flamed... but I'm entitled to express my opinions. Without name-calling. I'm not out to kill your country, but it makes me mad as he** to see that so many of you only see one side of the coin.

Too many Americans are as jingoistic as the current administration is. Invading Iraq was dumb, but I do support our people there in harm's way. Our efforts against fighting terrorism have suffered. Our relations with the world in general have suffered.
Having said that, the UN is a joke. And France, Germany, and Russia didn't line up against the US & Great Britian because out of some noble principles, they did it to protect their trading partner with nice oil reserves.

. . .what you are trying to say is;
'NO name-calling; you sad, deaf, ignorant, hated American a**holes.' Well jeepers, Bo. . .maybe one day, we here in the US, can rise to your high platitude. . .so you won't be forced to "'be embarrassed', and will once again 'Love us. ![]() BTW, If anyone is traveling up to that part of the world, I highly recommend skipping sweden, and go straight to Norway. . .the swedes are just a bunch of hateful arrogant a**holes! (I'm trying to match Bo's fine example here) Besides, Norway has better people, better scenery, and much-much better weather.

Dudes, don't eff with the Swedes. I'm telling you, I'm from Minnesota, they look all pretty and everything but they're badass. Get them pissed and it's whupasswhupasswhupass time.
And Bo, we have elections here for president every 4 years. Every once in a couple hundred years a Corvair-hating weirdo enters the race and things go sideways. In this case the retarded son of an unsuccessful ex-president got elected w/ less votes than one of the other guys. He basically represents the majority of people who yell on the internet and listen to Fox news. Don't give up on us yet, OK?

Hey Bo: I too have reservations about our operations in Iraq. However, I do find that it is necessary to keep in check certain regions from which reserves such as oil are produced. If ever there was doubt that Iraqi oil might be threatened by Saddam's regime, that threat has now been eliminated. This results in not just a freedom of fear that Iraq could hold hostage its oil reserves, but that the United States and European nations have adequate oil supplies in the future.
What troubles me about the so-called world view is how that view vacillates between hatred and appeasement. The countries that matter - France and Germany - who produce things other than two makes of automobile, cheese and chocolate (Sweden), have opted to release Iraq from their debt, which is an indirect "thank you" to the U.S. for risking soldiers and reputation to rid a country of its dictator. Again, I'm not saying this "war" is justified, but yet what do you think would happen if we left things "as was?" Can you see Saddam NOT cutting off oil reserves? Can you see Saddam NOT upsetting the precarious balance of the Middle East? Can you see Saddam NOT possessing a weapon of mass destruction and using it at will, anywhere, even Sweden? If you cannot see this, then your argument is valid, and your name calling (hypocritical to say the least as you asked us not to call names), would be allowed. As far as I see, Sweden, more or less, like many other countries, is benefitting from U.S. money, efforts, bullets and lives. Honestly, I would be a little more appreciative and less critical.
