I believe that some time ago in Mexico City they made a very large fountain with a cascading face along it's length. They used a transit to make it, and it was so long that because they did not take into account the curvature of the earth, all the water spilled over the middle. It was pretty darned flat.

A man who believes Earth is flat, and was ready to launch himself from a rocket in California on Saturday afternoon to prove it, has canceled his plans. At least for now.

Not having the required federal permits plus mechanical problems with his "motorhome/rocket launcher" forced self-taught rocket scientist "Mad" Mike Hughes to put his experiment on hold.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "told me they would not allow me to do the event ... at least not at that location," Hughes said in a YouTube announcement, amid international attention over his plans to launch into the 'atmosflat.'

"It's been very disappointing," he said.

Hughes is a 61-year-old limo driver who has spent the last few years building a steam-powered rocket out of salvage parts in his garage. His project has cost him $20,000, which includes Rust-Oleum paint to fancy it up and a motor home he bought on Craigslist that he converted into a ramp.

Hughes was set to launch his rocket between 2 and 3 p.m.on Saturday.

A typical level wouldn't work on the moon - the stuff in the glass cylinders is (usually, AFAIK) glycol / antifreeze which works fine under most terrestrial conditions but on the moon (about +260F in the sun and -280F in the shade) the glycol would either boil or freeze. Assuming it's a 60/40 mix of propylene glycol and water (not sure exactly, but that's a pretty common "antifreeze" composition) the freezing point would be about -55F and the boiling point 225F. Assuming you could find a level that had suitable stuff in the glasses, it'd work though.

I can not comprehend how people can truly believe the world is flat in 2017.

IMO it's about really SAD people trying to get attention from the not so bright and nothing more.

Recently two "truthers" were trying to convince me that the US Government had allowed 9/11 to happen & that the Lunar landings were faked and the photos were staged on Earth! ...and guess what, both of these clowns had dropped out of high school!

Taken by the crew of Apollo 11, July 20 1969.

i would spend $60 on a southwest airline ticket from LA to SF and look out the window.

what am i missing here..?

But the flat-earthers claim it's lense curvature......

Not only that^^, but that all photographic evidence has been "doctored". I've always wondered how they could explain the photos of Earth, taken from space, which fail to show all the continents within the disk, as they claim it would be. I guess the explanation is simple--just claim all contradictory evidence is fake and part of a conspiracy.

Maybe NASA should load all true believers into a shuttle, launch them into orbit to see for themselves, then "accidentally" open the bay doors so they all float in orbit until they eventually succumb to the pull of gravity and bun up, like so many flaming marshmallows, upon reentry.

The Rocket Man of the OP is simply a hustler, IMO, and has latched onto the Flat Earther movement to scrounge up more money for his "adventure." He no more believes the Earth is flat than did Neil Armstrong.

Hit the nail on the head. I thought the name sounded familiar and saw this reading one of dad's old magazines. He is the limo jump guy. Rolled with whoever had money.

His hustle killed him and he only proved the earth to be hard.
