what is it about microwaving a cup of coffee that make it taste bad?

is it burning the coffee? it adds a level of bitter that is beyond what i like.

placebo? am i imagining it?

it's the person that cooked fish head soup in it before you.

I don't usually warm my coffee (because I drink it too fast or put the extra in an insulated container)

I do heat up just plain water for tea and don't notice any flavor.

Yes, it is burning the coffee more.

If it isn't too cold, and your coffee is strong enough to handle it, try getting an ounce or so of water really boiling hot and dropping it in. Should warm it up plenty but not dilute it too much.

The guys at work have one of those insulated air pot things that seems to keep the coffee hot for hours.

I doubt you are burning the coffee more, but i would believe that cooling and reheating causes some chemical reactions among the many compounds present in coffee.

Or just add a couple shots of bourbon... it won't heat it up but you won't care

Hmmm. My wife makes a few days of coffee at a time and I pull a pitcher out of the refrigerator and reheat some most mornings. It never tastes bad, or different than on those days she makes it fresh. Could the problem be the coffee you use, Cliff?

Yea, start with Starbucks coffee, it is already burned and horrible tasting. You can't make it any worse.
