Over the range oven

The microwave thread got me thinking...

We have replaced every appliance in our kitchen (due to them breaking) except the microwave. So we have a stainless fridge, oven/range, and dishwasher. We should probably replace the microwave with something stainless.

Every house I lived in as a kid had either had a double oven or an over the range oven. I thought it might be nice to get an over the range oven. Apparently they don't make them anymore.

We just went through this with with out kitchen remodel. It's not a perfect solution. The lower oven is a little too low (we never use it anyway), and the microwave is about 2" too high, but it works.

I just bought a SS countertop microwave and an aftermarket SS frame and mounting kit online from. Microwave Oven Trim Kits - Custom Microwave Kits - Micro-Trim, Inc.

That's kind of my point. I can get microwaves with a built in range fan. There used to be ovens like this too. Not anymore, apparently.

I'll probably just end up with a SS microwave, but I was hopeful....

How tall is your spouse?

Our microwave is in our center island.

A bit low for me and often a pain in the ass but the wife is only 5'0" so her having to reach up to get hot stuff out posed the risk of getting burned by spillage.

IF installing yourself....The convection/microwave units are really heavy. I used a floor jack on the stove (with protection) to install when I build the house.....

Wife had not used the Convection in our last unit. The range is now Convection, so just a plain old microwave this time.....

Its funny how during my kitchen remodel options like this were starting to drive me crazy. Now.... I'm glad its done. I put a bosch wall oven under the counter. Love the thing, use it most days and cant think of a better unit. I didnt want to take up the counter space and also didnt want to be locked into a built in so its oven on the bottom, counter then a microwave on a shelf. Cheap microwave that works great, I might use it every other day if that.

Range hood moves way more air than a microwave, if you dont cook much or mostly simmer a microwave should/could work fine. Try to exhaust out rather than just recycle. The only difference I see in microwave models are the $$ versions that are a microwave and oven/toaster oven. Seems like a gimmick to me but I have no experience.

Mom and dad have a Tappan with the dual ovens. They had just come out with microwaves when the built the house. They are happy they did not do that option. If the second oven is no longer an option I will tell them ot make sure they take care of what they have!
