1940's Mossburg 22 found.

Wife's father's rifle. Wouldn't fire. I don't think its been cleaned in 70 years. Took it apart and cleaned it and tung oil on the stock, Sorry, no before pics. It looked like dried cardboard before.

I have a similar model - the 44US-C commercial version. Yours is a 42? 46? I got mine all crusty and rusty at a pawn shop, just to enjoy shooting with the irons. Magazines are expensive, but you have one. Try some CCI Quiet - with the long barrel they are nearly silent. Who needs a tax stamp...

Locks, chambers and fires beautifully, like a new gun.

that is actually a pretty collectible gun. DO NOT lose the magazine. Hard to find and pricey. Good job on bringing it back...well done.

Mine is a: Model 46M(b) S130 sight replaces S100, made 1947-1952. Somewhere It lost the peep sight (round disc with a small hole that screws into the back sight). I remember him saying he bought it after WWII.

Sweet old rifle. What is up with the Mannlicher type forearm? It looks like a really wide barrel band, or a splice in the middle of it.

Nifty. My mom just found an old Stevens .22 that my son and I restored. Very accurate. Then a week later a Mossberg 16ga in the attic.

I wish she'd find a Garand or something really interesting. Keep looking Mom!

My dad has the exact same rifle as GWN, sitting in it's case in his closet. He probably bought it around 1950-1952, when he a high school shop and drafting instructor, as well as the faculty advisor for the school rifle club. When I was a kid, he and I used to do target practice on our property, him with the Mossberg, and me with and old JP Stevens that could only shoot.22 shorts. Brings back memories.

That is what it is called "Mannlicher" stock? "Two piece Mannlicher stock"

Maybe that's why David said they were valuable? All the ones on Gun Broker are the shorter style stock's.

From the net "Do Mannlicher stocks actually do anything? Or are the just for aesthetic purposes. I can understand if you said that it reduces barrel harmonics, but that wouldn't matter unless you were shooting at extreme long distances. Thoughts? "

Barrel harmonics? On a .22?
