What are you using for your older pets' joints?

Our cats are 16 and 18 years old. They both have an arthritic limp, so we know that their joints can be painful. Neither run or jump like they used to. They're both indoor cats. We have a series of easy steps so they can get into bed with us easily, so they are really under no strain.

My wife thinks this supplement works, but I dunno.

Have you tried anything that you fell certain really works?

My last lab had bad joints her last 18 months....I gave her a Cosequin "treat" every day and my vet gave me drops to add to her food as a supplement on occasion as needed.
Worked for her....absolutely!

Another dear vet friend didn't think much of glucosamine when I asked him once...oh well

Take the cats to a vet.
They can tell you if glucosamine will help.
Sometimes surgery is the answer.

We use the dog version, Nutramax Dasuquin, for our dogs.

Contains 125 milligrams FCHG49 glucosamine and 100 milligrams TRH122 chondroitin sulfate per capsule

Don't know about cats, but I take the human version daily, certainly helped my knees.

I have two cats, one a 17 year old with CKD (long term kidney problem) that can't do glucosamine because of it. We started replacing one meal (they get fed 4 times a day) with canned salmon.

Both cats have become MUCH more active, both have lost most of their fatty tummies and often times they run around the house like kittens for an hour at a time. It has been nothing but good for them and they both wolf the fish down like it's going out of style.

Two tablespoons once a day, complete with bones, per cat and watch them become active again.

My old dog was suffering from arthritis, Vet gave me something for her and it worked great, got me a couple extra years with her. Don't remember what it was but it was definitely prescription (she improved in days and was good as new... don't think you will get that with homeopath)

I take G&C for my own joint pain, not sure how much it helps.

I'd be a cripple without my Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM cocktail.

That said, in people, does not work for everyone. My personal survey puts it 50/50.

Assume similar for other mammals.

May work, may not.

Certainly won't hurt and end of day, it's only money.

If you do try it don't expect overnight results. Can take up to a month to see improvement so be patient.

They've been on the Cosequin for about a year already. Still limping and not running around.
