Dishwashers - which one to go with?

I remember seeing a thread on this a few months ago - too lazy to run a search. My GE (POS) is terminal, heading for appliance hospice soon.

I was thinking Bosch? I knew they are a bit pricey but they seem worth it in the long haul. Any ideas???

All appliances I have are Bosch and although they are good, I'm not too sure about longevity. I read somewhere that the makers have predetermined life cycles for evry kind of appliance.
If you really want top quality than there's only one brand to consider, Miele. I have a friend who works for them, they really are unparallelled.

We have had our Bosch SHE model since 7/09 and we love it. We threw out our 3 year old GE Profile piece of garbage and the Bosch works really well. It's expensive ($900 or so) but we do 2 loads of dishes a day and it cleans everything. No exposed heater element, so no more melted Tupperware lids!

I just replaced a 8 year old Maytag which worked (but got kinda smelly, and was the wrong color for the new kitchen) with an LG. I like it a lot - works great. Feels solid too.

Whatever you go with, buy it online. I got free shipping and no tax that way, plus manufacturer's rebates.

We just got the stainless Bosch.
I don't know about where you live but check out the Sears outlet stores.
We have one by our house and picked up the Bosch for $600.00. Retail is about twice that much.
I think the Sears outlet is online too.

Stainless door inside and out, quiet as can be.
There is a red light that turns on when the thing is running. Without that light you would never know it is even on.

We replaced all the appliances last year and I splurged on a Bosch SHX68E05UC dishwasher. Expensive but silent. The only way you know it's on is the red light shining on the floor when its running.

I offer an alternative point of view as I have been very happy with the non-stainless GE Profile. Have had no problems in 4 years, and it isn't that noisy either. You can spend a lot more, but I don't see any reason to for a dishwasher. Heck, I could replace it twice and still come out for less than what some others cost. Its just a diswasher for God's sake!

Sears does have a lot of options to peruse when you are shopping.

Before I got on my Viking kick, I let a Sears saleman talk me out of a Bosch and into their top end unit. All stainless inside and out, buttons on top of door and not the front, just lights on door, and tons of insulation for sound. Based on owning this thing for about 8 years now, would not consider another brand if this is typical of Kenmore dishwashers. Think it was 700-900 if I remember, thought it was crazy at the time. We moved to FL for about 18 months and that was the one thing about our kitchen that my wife missed the most.

My brother built a house last year and had his builder replace his Bosch with something else after 3 months. He said it was great when it worked but it broke twice and lead time on parts were 2 weeks each time, second time he said take it out.

The only reason I didn't go with a Bosch, was because there is no built in food grinder (more pre-rinsing needed) and some of the models don't even have dry cycles. Would have loved to get the Bosch to match the fridge, but ended up with a Maytag instead. Very quiet if there's not much gunk on the plates, but it does get a little loud if the food grinder goes on.

Also a big +1 on the Sears outlet. You can shop their inventory on line for your local store(s). Picked up our fridge at more than half off.

Here's the Maytag we ended up with:

Sears: Appliances, Tools, Electronics, Apparel and more from Craftsman, Kenmore, Diehard and other Leading Brands

Looks like a pretty good sale going on now. I bought mine at a local supplier that had a scratch/dent/return showroom for around $450.

Just moved into this house and had all GE appliances. Hated them all, especially the DW. Bought a new Kenmore Elite and my wife loves it. Extremely quiet. Plus, it was on sale, got another 10% off for using their card AND we got a huge rebate from Sears just before the state was offering theirs.

The Bosch stainless are great, I'm very happy with ours.
I did replace a pump after 6 years. They are quiet and get things very clean. They are expensive but worth it.

Our Bosch dishwasher is all stainless and is so quiet you can't hear it running. Very nice, albeit expensive appliance!

When we were buying appliances for our house, as usual, I consulted Consumer Reports. We ended up buying all Kenmore Elite. Almost every one of the Kenmore appliances were rated at or near the top. Sofar, so good. My wife really likes the dishwasher too. The only appliance I'm not completely happy with is the refrigerator. It's a noisy son of a gun. That was one of the comments about it, but I didn't realize it was as noisy as it is. Other than that, it's OK.

One of the many reasons we bought the Bosch is it doesn't have a dry cycle. We never used the dry cycle on the old dishwasher and also have never seen the need for the food grinder (and don't pre-rinse anything). The Bosch is all stainless, incredibly quite and couldn't ask for the dishes to be any cleaner.

Below is a table from Consumer Reports as best I could cut & paste it. Their website isn't too friendly when it comes to copying. The top left is the brand & model. To the right of that is the retail price. Below left is the customer satisfaction rating, and to the right & below is the number of minutes for a cycle. I didn't go below the 75% customer satisfaction rating. The individual ratings of the washers' functions didn't copy. I know some of you don't put any stock in what they say, but I figure I can't do all the testing they do on my own so their ratings are good indicators.
